I just received my e-mail around 7:00 PM EST, so don't panic yet if you haven't gotten an e-mail.

Thanks to the OP and everyone else for pointing this great deal out!

I got both my emails today. What is it that I have to do about the W9? Where do I get it and where do I send it to?

if you signed up for both vista & office, you will receive the vista cd, and a form to complete and return before you will receive the link & cd key for office 2007

Business will game just as well as other versions. It supports DX10 (or at least it will when DX10 comes out) and has all the "Games for Windows" stuff we keep reading about. The only thing you'll be lacking from Home Premium is the media center.

I'm kind of shying away from Vista after reading a Maximum PC article listing ten reasons to stay away from Vista. Probably the thing that bothered me the most was this Digital Rights Management (DRM) that Microsoft seems to be embracing. I'm wondering if this is specifically with the Home Premium version, which contains the Media Player and other multi media stuff, or if it is also in this Business version. Does anyone know? I don't like the idea of my computer telling me what I can and cannot copy, or the idea that when you pop in a DVD or CD disk, it might install some of this copy guard stuff behind my back.

Thank you, foolish501!

I'm getting all excited and giddy over this. If/when this is sent out, this will be the biggest/best deal I've ever landed!

Looking back, I'm really surprised I even got in on this. I found out about it on Digg (of all places, right? with the traffic and all). Thankfully I remembered a trick that I had learned on AT that when a site is hammered you can sometimes still use https://xxxxxx.com So I tried and tried and after getting some error when I would submit the form, gosh...I don't know 100+ times? it finally went through.

Good times, good times!

  for all!

yay!! Got my emails for Vista and Office too! ok..so its best to wait for the Vista disc before sending in the W9 form right??

btw.. does this tax stuff affect the tax returns due now (for 2006) or do we deal with this for the next year's return since we are getting these "gifts" in 2007?? Just wanted to make sure before I file for taxes.

still hadnt receive any emails yet, but than I dont worry too much because I am already using it. Got a copy of vista and office 2007 form work. I loaded it onto my 2 years old Dell Insprion 8600 and suprising it runs pretty well even the Aero effect works. On the other hand it didn't found most of the drivers on my new laptop LG P1 Express Dual. I think this is a problem for all the newer laptop because they don't have driver for it.

Just got my email about office and vista shipping soon. I've got a question about office. If I install office on one computer can I uninstall it and install it on a different computer at a later date?

Congratulations. You've learned how to leverage the 2007 Microsoft Office system to enable to workers to get connected to the information they need. And now your free, full-licensed copy of the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is on its way.

Please be patient. We cannot ship your gift until Microsoft Office Professional 2007 is released to manufacturing. Your free software should arrive in six to eight weeks after RTM. If it doesn't arrive after eight weeks, please contact a customer service representative at Windows Vista and Office Kit Order Admin. Be sure to have your confirmation number *****on hand.

Just got my e-mail for Office 07. Didn't go for Vista as I already have a free copy of Vista Ultimate coming my way. I did, however, sign up for a Microsoft Live Event in Feb to get another free copy of Office 07 Pro. I need one for each PC. :D

I also have received confirmation emails for Vista Business & Office 2007 PRO. :)

To answer one previous question, AFAIK the Office activation system should let you
install and activate it on a different / replacement machine if/when you need to do that
as long as you stop using it on the previous installation. I'm not AWARE of any language
in the Office EULA that limits transfers from one machine to another, though I suppose
it could be that I just haven't heard of the limitation...

To answer another question about taxes -- if you as an individual get the 'gift' in
calendar year 2007, it'll be reported and filed with your tax return due for calendar
year 2007 which most people have due on April 15 2008.

If you filled out the W9 so that it's taxable to your business / partnership /
corporation / whatever, and if the business has a tax year that isn't on a calendar year
basis then you'd have to file the information about the received gift whenever is
appropriate for the next upcoming tax filing date for your business.

The Retail list price for MS Office Pro 2007 is ~ $499,
the Retail list price for MS Vista Business is ~ $299,
so that's about $800 of extra taxable 'income' to you for this tax year if you get both,
so you'll end up with about $200+ more due in taxes (e.g. in a 25% fed. bracket)
because of getting both than you'd otherwise pay.

Basically you get Vista at a slight discount and get
MS OFFICE for "free" if you base it on what you'll pay in taxes for both.

Yes the DRM infestation on VISTA sucks, no doubt about it, and the whole
X64 driver signing whether-you-like-it-or-not thing does too.

The DRM in Vista is pretty much there "out of the box" and will apply to anything from
a normal encrypted or copy-protected DVD or music file/track all the way up
to the next generation of copy protected "High Definition" HD-DVD / Blue-Ray-DVDs...
Vista itself probably won't install anything "new" behind your back except for
when they issue updates and service packs and so on in which case you'd likely be
semi-automatically getting newer versions of whatever their DRM / copy-protection
stuff they feel like adding in over time. This is basically DRM stuff
"from" Microsoft and also "from" the makers of the drivers for your video card,
your monitor, your sound card, etc.

However when you download & install or use from CD/DVD media *other* DRM software
or content, video games, real player, quicktime, Acrobat Reader, new Media Player
codecs / DRM support, etc. etc. etc. THAT STUFF probably will install whatever *ELSE*
it wants to either "behind your back" or after you tell it to go ahead and run/install
the thing.... This stuff is on top of and beyond all the DRM stuff from Microsoft.

Here's more info.:

Yikes, I didnt know all that stuff. I think I will just stick with XP for a while yet and see how things flesh out. Office should be good to go though.
