Everything I have read which isn't much seems to indicate that Windows 10 is avery nice experience without bugs.

Sounds like an easy transition.

So, should I take the free upgrade and what should I know?
 
Most responders like Win 10. You can try it and if you don't like it, you can revert. There are several threads in this forum that reflect experiences that might be useful to you.

If you have a spare drive, you can do what I did. I cloned my existing drive, and put it away. I then got the free upgrade and still had my old Win 7 ready to go. I ended up keeping both. 🙂
 
Similar to corkyg. I cloned my desktop drive to another drive and did the free 10 upgrade on that. It works fine Haven't tried all my games yet, but devices work right out of the box. Also upgraded the laptop and it works perfectly fine. I don't really see much benefit from the upgrade (no features I would love 7 to have, for example), but no real issues with the new OS.

Or even better. I have a backup drive with True Image of all of my computers since the XP era.

It might sound "expensive" but the 1TB 3.5" Drive that all the images are on is an expense of $44 on sale.

I did the same. Win 7 is in the file cabinet along with some other items.
 
Taking the plunge right now. 3GB DL (10 minutes maybe on broadband) and it has been prepping for installation for about 30 minutes now on an i3 processor/laptop. It's about 90% done with the preparation though. So almost done!

Started the whole process at about 2:03 PM. It is 2:50 right now. 4:25 install is completed.

I am also thinking about the free upgrade as well. There are rumor that I will have to pay for the window 10 in the future? I am currently using window 8.1 pro n and it is working fine but I am tempted with 10 sicne the xbox one wiressless controller adapter only work with 10 and u know how weak those usb cables are
 
Well if you don't do it before the one year anniversary of the release date then you will have to pay for 10. You can upgrade in place which secures your free copy and if you don't like it then use the roll back feature and clean install 10 later on. Why wait and pay when you can get it for free now? I moved my pc's to 10 as quickly as I could and all 3 were running 8.1, 2 were pro 64 bit and I don't regret it one bit.
 
Having used it on customers machines there's no chance I'll upgrade. There's nothing about it I like. So far I've seen quite a few issues that *I* would at least wait until a major update/service pack,etc before even considering.

I hope whatever replaces it is something less bloated and more of a streamlined OS so I can finally move on from Windows 7.
