Freewwweb has sold out to Juno! Used to be cool free web access with NO BANNERS. Now with lame Juno you've got to put up with an ad banner (like Altavista and others).

For those who want a semi-hot deal for free web access, just go to Juno.com or altavista.com.

Just went through signing up for another free isp. Juno really is suck. Tried ifreedom - ifreedom is suck.
Now I'm using worldshare. Have to donate $15/yr and do a survey once a month. No banners, POP3 mail - not too bad.

I went to worldshare and i don't connect as good as i did with freewwweb the best so far is only 33600 ,use to be with freewwweb 42000 bps but for free it ain't bad no banners to pu with

freewwweb also promised free dsl and they kept notifing me that their on the way to ny in the next couple of months did anyone else receive that that e-mail!!!!!!

I've been using Juno for 3+ years now. First for Email only then
in March 2000 I started using their FreeWeb access.
It was SLOW and had the banner. But after a few days they
sent me a promotion. $36 (for a whole year) for unlimited access
and no banners. Better connection phone numbers.
I connect at 48k+ everytime and am very satisfied.....Greg

Now that freewwweb is gone, I think I am actually going to pay for an ISP again. www.ev1.net offers 56k for only $10/month. Not too bad I guess. They also have game servers. Pretty cool. Then I can call and gripe when connections are bad. I hope DSL or cable becomes available soon...

Freewwweb never emailed me about their free dsl deal. I'm thinking hard about Optimum Online now. A friend of mine is on a two month trial offer with them and it's awesome. Ditch the computer only phone line, cough up a few more bucks a month (29.00) and surf in style. Only drawback is buying the modem. :|

Just go get OOL. If there is a free 2 month trial, then that's $60 savings towards the $150 modem. Your speeds will be around 2-2.5Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. Now that's in STYLE! You will NOT regret it.

I recommend MSN internet from Costco. It works out to $11/month. I also think MSN is giving a 6 month free for 6 month purchase (At regular $24.00/month so it's about the same for non-costco members).

I have it and it's pretty fast. No complaints or drops in 36 hours.

CrazyJake, I don't understand why it matters if you are a junior or senior or whatever. Does it make you feel better to tell your friends that you are a "senior member" at anandtech, Most people are going to laugh and tell you that don't give a rats ass. I guess I just don't understand the whole thing but it is just a message board, maybe you get rewarded or can put in on your resume some day, that would be a great conversation starter to meet new people with!

Actually when I was posting the message Dayton I couldn't remember his name so I popped in junior, since it more than likely was a post of someone that didn't know the rules. And guess what...He was. Pretty Amazing huh. I could care less about Junior, Senior, regular member, elite, whatever...I would just like the Hot Deal forum to pertain to Hot Deals. A Novel Idea don't you think.
