Posted a more fleshed out message in the Hot Deals thread, but there's a free UT3 weekend going on, and they're selling the game for $8, with the UT Complete Pack for $16. A lot of great mods across the board for all the UT games on ModDb, making this a steal.

I haven't tried UT3 yet. Is it worth the $8? Have they fixed a lot of the complaints it used to have?

I got it for free when I bought my i7. I've only spent like 3-4 hours on it and I really don't find it that enjoyable.

Not to say that it's a bad FPS, but it's not better than TF2 or COD4 (or UT2004 for that matter).

UT3 is the red headed step child of the UT series, it isn't worth the bandwidth/hd space.

I like UT3 in its current state, the last big patch resolved a lot of problems and added new content, and there's a good community for it, making all types of superb custom maps and models to play around with. I preferred UT 2004 when UT3 just came out, but right now UT 2004 is almost dead and I only played it in Invasion servers, the server I used to play in lost my character stats due to my prolonged absence, I haven't re-installed it since then. I would say that right now I prefer UT3, but I'm not suddenly saying that UT 2004 was anything bad, I loved it, but it's barely alive now, I think there's more people still playing UT99 than 2004.

I bought 2 retail copies of this damn game the other day, installed (using steam) one on my comp with Windows 7 x64 and another on my bro's comp (that I setup) with XP 32. It works fine on mine but on my bro's comp it crashes when launching the game. Apparently other people have the same problem, but I haven't found a solution. Yes, he has latest drivers and whatnot, I formatted that thing only about 2 months ago, and all other games run fine.

Stupid crappy game. I guess I will have him install from the disc later, and if that doesnt work see what other hoops need to be jumped through to play the game.

UT3 is all about the custom content. It has some of the best fanmade mods and maps I've seen in a while, and they easily make the game worth it. I like it much more than 2004, but not as much as 99.

I've tried multiple times throughout the day to download it, but I keep getting the Steam servers are too busy error.

Ah well, I never found any of the previous UT games that interesting, so I don't mind the issue too much.

Just played the normal game for a bit and this game still sucks as much as I remember it. I'll have to look into that haunted mod though.

For $8 you could get a game that's a lot worse. I enjoy it alot and like said above they fixed a lot of stuff wrong with it in the big update. Sucks that people still don't play it. Yes it's not as good as something like TF2 but it's an enjoyable game in it's own right and I enjoy it more than UT2k4 and I used to play 2k4 a hell of a lot but I usually play 2k4 more cus there's still more people playing that.
