I'm paying for the 20mbps Comcast Plan, have been for over 3 years.

All of a sudden I noticed my download speeds were going way too fast.

My friends who live near me, still at 20mbps (and they are pissed)

Thanks Comcast for my early XMAS gift I guess....

Did a speedtest: (and I can sustain that speed downloading content, its not "blast" or a burst)

Well, you can expect it not to last long if you've told other subscribers near you. Someone is going to call and ask if they can get the same service as you, bringing attention to the issue.

More than likely it's something they would realize anyhow, they might be doing work in your area and this was done for a reason.

They increased your speed because they intened to charge you more over a certain amount. The faster you reach it, the more likely they will collect for overages.

Score!

My friend had this same "problem" with verizon FIOS. He was getting ~300Mb/s though. After about 5 months it stopped

I have the 12 MB with burst to 15 plan. But I get 20 - 30.
But I am sure that's about to change when I drop their TV and go with Dish. Comcast is the only high speed provider in the area.

Comcast is morons and won't charge for breaking the cap they just turn you off.

You might have been subbed to the wrong package, or they have a mixup in configs or tftp boot files. No big whoop, if they care they'll put you back on the right one. If not - enjoy. Just don't expect it to last. We do 100/10 over cable in the east caribbean (not comcast). Its a damn shame that an island in the middle of the ocean has significantly faster and cheaper internet than I can even pay for (30mbit top end for CC, 24mbit for Uverse (currently use))

Where there is less to manage, you can do good things... simple equation.
