Very cool. I just visited a website charging $5 paypal for the exact same service. I would definitly trust someone from AT then from the internet.

Too bad I only have a 3390. I may have a friend who may need the service tho.

I have a 3360 locked to AT&T. I have no use unlocking it, I make probably less than 60 minutes of calls from it monthly and there are like only 5 people in my phonebook, who's numbers I know by heart 🙂

Timekeeper - I know it's not a 3rd gen phone, but by any chance would you be able to unlock a Nokia 3595? Please say yes 😀

That phone is not GSM.

GSM = Global Satelitte M....something
GSM phones can be used all over the world. They run on SIM cards. Some phones come programmed to work only with SIM cards from that company. Unlocking a phone (which can only be done on GSM) makes it so that any company's SIM card can be placed into that phone. Some phones come unlocked to begin with.
Sprint, being a PCS company, doesn't use GSM, and as such, doesn't use SIM cards. Verizon also doesn't use SIM cards since they are CDMA. When a phone is "unlocked" that means it is "SIM Card unlocked" meaning any SIM card can with in it. CDMA/PCS phones don't use SIMs, hence no lock/unlock. They just...work.

can anybody explain what's the advantage to 'unlocking' your cell phone? i have a verizon lg vx6000.... what use would it be?

Why not just call up your provider? When i was on T-Mobile they unlocked my phone for free.... AND i was guaranteed it would work...

I just called up T-Mobile and the guy said that it's impossible to unlock my phone. I have a Samsung R225m btw. Should I try again with another customer rep?

hmm...i have no idea..but it's worth another try or two.

I called for the unlock codes for samsung N105 and S105. never got the code for the N105 (b/c apparently they never submitted the request)...but I got one for the S105. mom needed it unlocked for when she was in Taiwan so she could use a taiwanese carrier to call the US for cheaper.

Well first, it can't be unlocked. Second, the advantage is you would be able to use it with any carrier you wanted to. For GSM phones that means overseas as well. Us Sprint/Verizon guys are SOL on this.
