Free Tivo 80gig after rebate.

I have no thought of acually using TiVo seeing as I have a media center pc but couldn't you just get one of these and rip out the 80gb hard drive and have a free 80gb drive?

Link

Great deal for those who have Directv. I got all excited about another free TiVO until I saw that part. 🙁

For littlebitstrouds:
It requires DIRECTV activation and subscription within 30 days of purchase and inclusion of Directv bills to get the rebate, so just ripping out the drive won't help.

I would bet as part of the deal you agree to a year of service to claim the rebate.

I replaced my 2 Ultimate TV units with Tivo's at the same time I negotiated my contract renewal some time ago.

I got 3 months free showtime, $10.00 off a month for 6 months and
I got 2 Tivo's at $50.00 each at the time and sold my 2 Ultimate TV units for $400 and $430 on e-bay. Not bad.

HDTV,
Now that's a deal anyone would admire...getting paid to upgrade your equipment while getting paid to watch TV. 😀😀😀

If it weren't for HSI from Comcast, . . .

OK what type fo switch(splitter) would I need and Can use a them in tandem.

I currently have 3 tv's one with Tivo.

I have a two in and four out that is running through the house

Not hot unless your going to be around for a while:

Offer valid between 07/31/05 and 11/05/05 for customers who activate DIRECTV DVR service and purchase 24 consecutive months (without interruption) of any TOTAL CHOICE programming package ($41.99/mo. or above), DIRECTV PARA TODOS programming package ($29.99/mo. or above) or qualifying international services bundle within 30 days of equipment purchase.

Rebate indicates it's only on the HD TiVo, did someone else see different?

The web site is confusing: when you hit the link for the 80Gb Directv TiVo and hit the
rebate link it says:

"Mail-in Rebate Form for DirecTV $100 Rebate Offer (HD and HD DVR)"

And yet the rebate form reads:

"BRAND: DirecTV
MODEL: Not defined
>>>SKU: 6570089 (which is the non-HD 80Gb R10)
REBATE: $100
OFFER DATE: 07/31/2005 TO 11/05/2005
POSTMARK DATE: 30 days from date of purchase"

even though this info is for the R10 unit link page. Typical BB...go figure.

The rebate is for any of the dvr. They just came today and installed the DVR10. They told me my rebate form will come with my first statement.

Don't hold your breath. However, if you don't get your rebate as promised just call Directv retention, complain, you'll get it. Guaranteed. Best service in the industry.
Personally I don't want the R10 (even free)...too many problems reported on them at tivocommunity.com. Waiting for the R15 which should have the same offer and more features/better software (although software version 6.2 is current; you'll probably have version 6.1 on you 10; check it out in "System Information").

I am seriously considering getting this. Any comments to sway me in the direction?

Just make sure you plan on staying with DTV for 2 yrs and rememeber TIVO is $5.99 a month. TIVO is AWESOME though!

do I still have to pay that $4.95/mon for the second non-tivo unit if I replace it with another tivo unit? I think they only charge $5 for any # of tivo unit in the house.

yes you do. You pay 1 fee for tivo but a fee for each additional rcvr. So if you have 10 tivos you pay 4.99 for tivo service but 4.99 for every additional rcvr.

Not a good deal.
With Directivo, your stuck to be subscribing to Directv, you cant use the tivo functions for other use (i.e. cable). Don't get me wrong, I have directivo and its great, but now I want to move to comcast for a much better price and some asian shows not shown in directv so its hard for me to get rid of my Directivo unit. If its was a regular Tivo unit, I wouldn't mind getting rid of any directv satellite box.

My heart sank when I read the Directv subscription, I'm done with my 1 year sub and don't want to renew the contract.

OP, you need to add to the thread title saying that it's with a required DirecTV subscription.

Otherwise, this would be a blazing hot deal.
