I hope this is an apropos board for this.
If anyone here is in college, I recommend exploring your school's student software discount program. I was about to buy windows xp home oem from newegg for 90 bucks, but then I poked around on my school's website and downloaded an .iso of windows xp pro w/sp2 for free. It works perfectly and I have a unique serial number. That would have cost me $140+ on newegg for the oem.
Also, at least at my school, if you want to finance a computer it's much cheaper to do it through the school than through a website. In effect, you can just buy it and take the reciept to the financial aid office and they will reimburse you for the cost of the machine. Then you just have to pay them back at a much lower interest rate, if it's not subsidized already. You can even get a straight discount on the machine if you go through the school. Anyway, I thought it might help.
Edit: Thanks to Myxylplyk for supplying us with the MSDNAA school search.

Here's the Microsoft site to do a search for the school. If your school doesn't show, you can just leave the school info blank and just select the state. There will be alot of hits. You'll have to page through them then. A problem some may run into before you can get the software is that you need to be enrolled into a particular curriculum. At the top of the page that comes back for your school, click on support to see who to contact about getting an account. The school my wife goes to has XP w/SP2 ISO for a free download and they will issue you a CD key.
