free proxy server software at http://www.analogx.com/ i installed it and it works great, plus it easy to setup.

Do you have several machines on a network, but only one connection to the internet? Wish you could browse the net from the other machines, just like you can from the machine that's connected? Then what you're looking for is called a Proxy Server, and AnalogX has just what you want. AnalogX Proxy is a small and simple server that allows any other machine on your local network to route it's requests through a central machine. So what does that mean in English? Simple, run Proxy on the machine with the internet connection; configure the other machines to use a proxy (it's very easy, there's a detailed description in the readme), and voila! You're surfing the web from any other machine on your network! Supports HTTP (web), HTTPS (secure web), POP3 (recieve mail), SMTP (send mail), NNTP (newsgroups), FTP (file transfer), and Socks4/4a and partial Socks5 (no UDP) protocols! It works great with Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Microsoft Messenger, and many more!

cool, does anyone know if this is better to use than something such as "Microsoft Internet Sharing"? I have that currently setup at my house cuz it was the easiest/cheapest solution at the time.

I think it is, I had ICS and thought it sucked. this proxy only takes maybe 5mins to setup, i'd say try it and if you don't like i go back the ICS.

How does this compare with WinGate 3.0x? I am still running the old version because I got it bundled with my Homefree cards and don't feel like paying for an upgrade.

I had some problems with this software crashing my machine even more frequently than it already did. Other than that, yeah, it's great software and easy to setup.

I used this very early on, but the new version has a lot more support. Proxy+ didn't work well for me at all, but this is working great now. Thanks for the reminder.

A proxy (at these this one) helps share a single internet access with multiple computers. My main machine (I guess a proxy server now too) at home goes online with a 56k modem. My network card connects to a switch that connects to several other computers. Unless you have a dsl router or something similar that has a direct connection to the net, a hub or switch doesn't do net sharing.

Oh, I tried to use Microsoft's internet sharing, but it changed my network card configurations and my modem disappeared when I run "winipcfg". I couldn't get online with MS's thing. I probably messed something up, but analogx is extremely simple an effective.
