"FREE" shipping materials

We sometimes order groceries online from Albertsons. They come in nice medium size boxes with "air space" and lots of bubble wrap packing materials. This comes in handy for us online traders. I think the groceries are the same price as in the stores. If we get 3 boxes of groceries I end up with 1 box full of bubble wrap.

Bah! Shipping materials, are nuthin...

Grocery stores are good for one thing only, Milk Crates!!

Absolutely free, and they make perfect bookshelves/cd racks/laundry baskets/furniture/suitcases/makeshift server cases (ATX or AT!)/flower pots/and milk storage!

<< Warning: The use of this case by any person other than the owner is punishable by law. >>

😛

Uhh, makeshift cases outta milk crates.. Whoa. That must look funny as heck. So how do you exactly mount the motherboard and drives in a milk crate?

REALLY??? I've bought groceries online and it's a ripoff! It's only great if your rich or disabled.

If you want free materials, keep an eye on the dumpsters that are for recycling. They usually have great boxes and packing stuff, especially around apartment buildings where people are moving in all the time. I know I have filled them up on many occasions with great stuff that cost an arm and a leg.

valkore: don't laugh, I made my old computer (prolly 2 or 3 computers ago) with milk crate. don't have it anymore. but you just drill some holes in the bottom for the mb standoffs, put something at about 1/2 heigth to make a second level, and then mount the hd and ps on that second level. its very bad @$$ and very ghetto at the same time.

Pfft. Screw that fake hot deal crap. Buying groceries and dumpster diving have an opportunity cost that effectively rules them out of the 'hot deal' category.

The US Government will send you as many shipping supplies as you want - free of charge.

Priority boxes are hardly practical when you're moving, although Fed EX has some great triangular "tubes" that they give you, all you have to do is open an account(free). If you join the Kodak Pro Passort Association (free for photographers, which we all are), you can get a huge discount on Fed Ex shipping AND free suppies.

None of these deal with the initial issue of free packing material however. As far as I can see, most of the deals posted here aren't any better than dumpster diving anyway.

The few gems that come up on occasion make up for it, but you end up paying for it all with time. It's still fun though, kind of like fishing.

Just so everyone knows, "Milk Crates" are not FREE, and taking them from a grocery store without permission is theft.

I just use them as a place to keep all those little tags that I tore off my furniture that said "Not to be removed under penalty of Law."
