Three years subscription * 1500 = 4500. That's a very creative definition of free.

This isn't all that hot unless you really need a sun enterprise development environment.

And then, it's not like it's hot compared to anything else; deals are only deals relative to your other purchasing options. Like when you have a brand name hard drive priced well below its competitors, that's hot. When you have one company lowering its price for an exclusive product that no one else sells, it's not a deal, that's just the price.

A company lowering its prices temporarily seems like a deal to me, whether it has competitors or not. Say you could only buy WinXP directly from MS, and for one week, they cut its price in half....I'd call that a deal.
