Free Screenshot Program

Anyone know a good utility specifically for taking screenshots from video files? What I want is the ability to point to a video file and input, say, "Capture frames 1200-1240"

I basically need it for IQ comparisons while using different encoders/settings (testing purposes). The problem with ffdshow's 'Grab' feature is it doesn't work right with anamorphic files (I get horizontally compressed screenshots) and the colors don't look right. Colors look vivid and saturated on playback but the screenshots look washed out. VLC works fine but I don't know how to play a whole bunch of files and extract the exact same frames from each of them. And VLC also seems to have playback issues with VC-1 files (am currently trying out Microsoft Expression Encoder - in my limited testing, it doesn't outdo x264/AviSynth)

I have found that MWSnap is as good as any. Vista has it's own very good one (Snipper). I like MW Snap best in XP. It never fails.
