Scanners have become a commodity in today's world. The Sharpwin Opticpro LS-600 is a perfect example of it. It is available from dumpinggoods for $4.99. Dubbed "the only legal size 3-D scanner" available, it can scan up to 8.5" x 14" offering a 600x1200dpi resolution at 36-bit color depth. Unfortunately, the parallel port may slow the scanning time to some extent in a world of USBs. The software provided is Micrografx Picture Publisher, now owned by Corel and the OCR is Textbridge. The scanner was on sale worldwide under the name OpticPro or Black Widow in UK. The manufacturer however does not provide Windows XP drivers though you may try Windows 2000 drivers. Plustek also appears to have drivers for that model

Don't know if this will help or not, but my scanner (Microtek Scanmaker X6EL) works in WinXP although I don't have manufacturer support for it. It connects to an Adaptec SCSII card.
You just use the "Acquire" function from within whatever software you have. I usually use a copier program, but it also works with OCR software and with graphics software. Maybe it's the SCSII card that makes the scanner visible on my system, but maybe XP will also see a scanner on the parallel port.

That's (one of) the beauties of SCSI scanners, especially compared to parallel-port ones. Another is the speed. 🙂 I've helped several people in the past pick out SCSI scanners, and no-one was dissapointed with them. I myself only have a cheapo Acer parallel-port one though, an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

I ordered one of these and then looked around for drivers. I know that XP isn't covered, but I am running 2000. Has anyone found 2000 drivers for this? During my search, I found that mwave has it for $5.00 + shipping and claims that it is compatible with 95, 98, and XP. I checked Plustek and did not find this model listed.
Also, after ordering, I noticed another item that I would like to order. I emailed them last night and haven't received an answer yet. I also tried calling them at least 3 times today and the phone just keeps ringing- no one answers. So coustumer support seems to be -none. And this is to add to an order. I wish us all luck on this one. Lynn

Isnt there any way you can just use the included software. Click on the crap that shows saying it itsnt windows 98 or is not compatible with nt.
then goto the drivers exe and change it in compatibility mode to act as if your running a 98 machine?

Not making sense?

Goto one of your program exe icons (doesnt matter which one)
Right click and select properties
Select Compatibility
And under Compatibility mode you can make it run under dos, 95, 98se, 2000, or nt
Wouldnt that work?
I know it does for some old games I have that give me a stupid cant run on blah blah so wouldnt that be the same for the driver?

No, "compatibility mode" only works for user-mode applications, not drivers, which are system-level components and generally have totally difference architectures between Win9x and NT.

However, if there is a W2K driver (or even NT4) out there somewhere, it might be possible to hack the .INF file to get it to install on XP.

I bought one some time ago. It works nicely. I did fiind unofficial XP drivers with a Google search, but haven't tried them. I had ordered a few Labtek headphones cheap and the scanner only added $10 to shipping. But the scanner is black. I don't mind.

OK, I got the scanner. CD supports Win 3.1 and win 95. Has anyone found drivers for 2000? Or has anyong got any ideas for a work-around? Or did I just buy a (nice looking) paperweight. HELP. Lynn
