I passed the game, and I loved it. I don't remember the last time I screamed like a little girl playing a video game. Seems to me it gets scarier towards the end (not the very far end).
I actually preferred Amnesia over this and the Amnesia sequel, not that Outlast as terrible. I just felt the story and atmosphere of Amnesia was better and some of the mechanics were good.
Nearly finished. Honestly this game is a grind because it's nerve wracking as hell at times. I can't believe a game like Gone Home last year received more attention than this, total bullshat. It's really a good game but stressful.
The only part I really didn't like so far was the outside. I chewed through batteries like mad and it was frankly too dark. It was like a nightmare I have every once in a while in which I can just not see anything despite knowing I should be able to. I've never been outside at night when it's literally pitch black. I started that section almost full of bats and ended it half way down my last one I think. I then ran out and had to reload just to get the load bonus on batteries.
EDIT: Finally finished it. I can't actually say I enjoyed this game; on the contrary I didn't. I didn't have fun. It was absolutely grueling at times, not from monotony but I've never played a game that actually raised my heart rate for extended periods, and this did. What it did was absolutely force me to finish it. I HAD to see this thing through to the end. I have to applaud the design team, the game was massively more engaging than the majority I ever play, despite its obviously moderate budget.
I will reiterate, giving this thing a pass and lauding Gone Home is an absolute travesty of biblical proportions. This game was truly amazing in some ways. I've never played an entire game feeling like a rag doll/powerless victim for hours on end.
Yea I have not had time to continue since I was out of town. I know what you mean by enjoying it. It's hard to enjoy when you are always tense haha. I'll have to complete it as well. Their whole point with the game was to make the player suffer and that's what they have accomplished.
