Free printer.....

I know that everyone has been talking about the e-stamp printer deal but what about the free tektronix printer? I've read and reread the site and it seems like a very hot deal. Free printer, free ink and free onsite service...all you have to do is buy a maintenance kit every 8 months or so and print a certain number of pages per month. Has anyone done this? I'm thinking about applying. Oh the website is freecolorprinters.com

Never heard of the Phaser 850 printer....Ink ribbons are a little pricey....It is good you don't have to buy the black ink ones though. I'm not sure how much you have to use the printer...There is some quota they are cyrptic about.....Does anyone have any more info on this? I may sign up....

The thing is that this printer sprays wax onto paper therefore no printer ribbons. Color ink runs about 200 dollars for 3 sticks of each color (enough for 6000 prints(?)). Still much cheaper than inkjet and supposedly better.

You bet yer bippy I'll sign up for one of those bad boys! That's a kickbutt printer. They start at about $2K stripped. Features like many megs of memory, and large harddrives can run it up to $4K easily. It's a sweet machine... one I'd actually consider buying instead of a color laser, if I was in the market.

I received this printer about a month ago and it is so cool. It is so big and it is perfect for a network. I plugged it in and connected it to the hub and it configured itself for printing. It has an led screen so you know exactly what it is doing. It also comes with 64 megs of ram and an extra paper tray (which holds 500 sheets of paper. I've had no problems with it and the quality is great (especially for the price).

Beware of the maintenance kit costs. These printers are very nice, and they don't give 'em away for nuttin. They WILL get there profits somewhere else. Sounds like the FREE computer deals with Compuserve, What a rip!

It's pretty simple, this deal is designed for business users who would normally buy/lease this type of equipment. They'll buy the printer supplies anyhow and write them off, so if the printer is free, then all the better.

If you're sittin' at home with an Epson 740 and contemplating this deal, don't. It's not for you, and you're better off putting the bucks into a new KIA, since the supplies will cost you close to that over the course of a year or 2. :Q

The maintenance kits cost around 100 dollars and last for 40000 prints (40000/3000= 1 year of printing) I don't print color so I get the black ink for free. In fact I just received 50 packs of ink sticks (with three sticks each) for 9.75 shipped. Inkjet cartridges are 20 dollars each and the quality isn't as good. Besides it is very cool.

Besides the color ink is only 80 dollars each (3 colors = 240) this lasts for well over 6000-7000 pages. To meet the quota you don't have to print color, just print monochrome and print color as you normally do. This is way cheaper than ink or laser.

So if you wanted this printer for home use, would it be worth getting? Is there a quota on how much you have to print? or can you just keep it and get the kit after a few years.....

You have to print a certain number of pages per month depending on the number that you were accepted by. I have to print 3000 pages per month which sounds like a lot (and it is). However this is about 7 dollars worth of paper with free black ink. I think it's a good deal (especially if you need to print anyways).

Yeah, but I'm looking at printing 200-300 pages per month, not the thousands you would in a business....I'm just a poor college boy. What do you mean number selected?

I have no problem paying for the kit and ink.

But, how would they know the number of pages I print in a month as long as I pay for the ink and kit?

Additionaly, how long do you have to keep the printer?

Thanks

Never mind, found the info on the site, it saysthe system automatically e-mails the # of pages you printed to the web site. One could just go to Word and type a, then tell it to print the page 2500-3000 times. Then if you are really cheap, you could flip the paper over and re-use it. That's what some could do, if they are worried about not meeting the requirement. Furthermore, if you do not meet your quota, you are charged $75. Sounds like a very nice deal to me, and after 3 years, the printer is yours to keep.

Thanks for the info Chadley. So if one uses just black ink, it is a very good deal. Over 2 years, you'll need 2 kits for a total of $160 and some black ink that is free (except shipping).

I'm going to apply right now and if I'm lucky they will accept my new home business as one eligible for this deal.

You can't afford about $8 dollars per month? If you print monochrome (and thus use free black ink) then your only cost is electricity and paper...very cheap and maybe you can outsource and become a sort of mini-print shop.
