I hope this is not a repost. This looks really cool.

http://www.aimphoneline.com/index.adp

From their website:

Why Do I Need Another Phone Number?
Everyone worries about giving out their home or mobile number. Now you can give out your AIM Digits instead.

How Does It Work?
AIM Digits are part of the FREE AIM® Phoneline service. When you're online, you can screen calls, answer the ones you want, and talk as long as you'd like.* When you're not online, your calls go to voicemail and are delivered to your e-mail.

Don't waste your time. I registered her in the 909 area code (so. Calif) and it said not availibe, would email me back. So I had a friend try 951 (Riverside Ca) No luck.

Then I was up on another web site and they showed that only 26 area codes were availible which is nothing compared to the hundreds of area codes.

Then someone else told me to look at freelocalphonenumbers web site.

I got a free number in 909 voice mail, caller id and they gave me a special $5 out calling credit

Now I am happy

I had heard that we would get bombed with ad's and this is a new twist, spyware. If I ever stop using the deal I have now, I may not want AOL.

But most have no clue, and then wonder why the rocket ship computer they had is now slow.

Thanks for the post.

But let's get down to business. Leave it to AOL to take something that could be huge for them, and turn it into a sold-out, spyware ridden heap of ****** program.

I mean, historically, it makes sense that aol makes terrible products, but it's also great that they are only using them in what, 26 area codes? WOW , great coverage. Aol never ceases to disgust me

While I do use AIM, I use trillian to connect, not the AIM software. Beware of anything free from AOL. I learned the hardway in the mid 90's. Signed up for onna their travel awards programs.. never again, never again.

FYI, it works in the 310 area code. What I mean by "it works" is that they gave me a 310 number. I already have sunrocket, so I have no use for this, and probably won't install the new software, but if you're in 310 and interested give it a shot I guess.

I hear that there is a 12 step program to get off of AOL.

Here is how it works!

You call them 12 times to tell them you want off the service!

I signed up for voicestick using that freelocalphonenumbers site (Must be an agent)

Got a 909 number, all works fine! No BS charges!
