Staples B&M has box of 12 Bic Round Stic Grip pens for FREE after INSTANT rebate. It is in the middle of this week's flyer. Regularly $1.53/box. There doesn't appear to be a limit as to how many you are allowed to take! I don't know how long the promotion is good for. I got 2 boxes of black and 2 of blue because I'm not greedy. I wouldn't go out of my way for this but I work next door to a Staples.

The cachier was from a 3rd world country. First she gave me a dirty look and read the ad about 5 times and examined the the boxes. Then she asked 3 other people. Finally she smiled and said I guess this is free. She seemed amazed that I could waltz out of there with 48 pens without giving her a cent. Only in Amereeekah!

I think I will wait for the last day of the promotion, to allow everybody else to get a chance, and then take all that are left.

Enjoy.

3rd world countries is another nice name for "developing nations" - as far as I know there is no 2nd world countries. US & Western Europe along with some other places is considered 1st World.

I guess your state doesn't have sales tax, 'cos it says on the flyer: "Plus tax where applicable."

Generally, first-world countries are capitalist and developed, second world are non-capitalist (mostly communist) and developed, and third-world are developing. The following text is shamelessly stolen from some site in the UK:

At the end of the Second World War; the definitions as such, although pretty ambiguous as a whole, provided a reasonable framework within which to work ...

A First World Country was one that was industrialised and had generally accepted the concept of capitalism and world trade, a Second World Country was one that was equally industrialised but had rejected capitalism, notably in favour of communism or marxism, and were more self focused while the Third World Countries were simply those that didn't fit either of these two models.

The key feature of a Third World Country was, even then, its lack of industrialisation, a very low GNP, a high population and a high level of poverty within those countries.

As the world has moved on; these definitions have become somewhat meaningless but the concept of a Third World, aligned with third rate status, has remained.

thanks for the post. i always lose pens, and after the second cross pen went AWOL, i buy big packs of cheap pens that i still lose.

Also, Nigeria is a fourth world country. Their economy is decimated by predatory capitalism, an unfortunate partnership of the oil companies and corrupt government.

Before rebates, sure... but in most places coupons are taken off before tax.

I guess it all depends on the store.

I thought the way countries were ranked was by the health of the people living in that country and how much they ate. :)

Stores are "supposed" to apply sales tax, then discount the cupon/rebates all the time. However, they usually don't (wonder what the state feels about that - prolly not too much since they still do it ;)

Only in a 3rd world country businesses would give away their inventory for free. Aren't businesses in the 1st world supposed to operate efficiently??? Only in America...

Ha, I can't resist . . .

2nd world countries are communist ones. Back in the day, someone decided that democratic countries are 1st world, communist ones are 2nd world, and developing countries (especially those that could fall to the evil, evil commies) were 3rd world. You don't hear about 2nd world countries anymore 'cause there are so few left.

This has been another useless fact. ;)

forgive the cashier from the third world country. There is usually no training regarding customer service in those areas. Most of the cashiers in third world countries just do their job like the customers owe them something. You won't even get as much as a "hi, how are you today?" from them. I was from one of those countries, so I was pleasantly surprised at the level of customer service here, even at a grocery store!
