OfficeMax has K-byte DDR for $40.00, and there is a OM $20.00 rebate and a K-Byte $20.00 Rebate.

this week only!!! june 22 to june 28

The ad at officemax website says DDR only, but of the 4 local OfficeMax stores where I live, 1 had pc2100 and the other 3 all had PC2700 256mb for this deal.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This ram is not dual channel capable for Nforce2 motherboards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worked single channel fine for me though and I tested it on several other boards, and it worked fine on a KT266a, KT333 and KT400 chipset.

Sorry I don't have a P4 rig test it on.

thanks...which nf2 mobo you tested on and what manufacturer chips on the modules you tested..? tia 🙂

they are Light green and say PC2100/PC2700 on the box, and are Spectek chips.

The PC2100 sticks are in a Purple box and say only PC2100 on the box, and are some really generic chips I can't even Identify, I think the chips have a big VT on them.

the RAM is not dual channel huh? So what makes it dual channel anyway? Will it actually say "Dual channel DDR RAM?" I'm looking for some cheap RAM, but it needs to be dual.

there all specteck chips from what i have found.

and i tested them on a 8RDA+ 1.1 and a NF7-S 2.0 and 8RDA3+ 1.1, not dual channel compatible on any of them, but work fine in single channel with 2 sticks.

and on a KR7A-133R,KX7-333,FIC KT400 board

oh teah and i bench at 185FSB sucessfully, but was not sompletely stable.

I would not recomend them for overclocking, but for stock they work fine.

I tried this RAM in dual channel on Abit NF7-S v2.0. It only seems to work if you set the speed settings to "By SPD", but I am pretty certain that this works. Other settings give me long BIOS beeps, etc.
Also, some OMs have the crappy "elixir" brand, with 7.5ns chips, truely PC2100. Had to go to a second OM to actually find the good 6ns chips.

Good luck getting the K-Byte $20.00 Rebate. Lots of folks are having problems from previous K-Byte rebate deals. The rebate center handling them is saying people are sending in the wrong UPC when it is the correct UPC. You need to decide if this is worth $20.

Some of the other stores have PNY 256MB DDR PC2700 Spectek on sale for $12-$15 AR.

well I have confirmation emails from K-byte on rebate I sent 2 months ago, they sre just mailing the checks this week, they sit on your $40.00 for 2 to 3 months.

This time some of the boxes have 2 UPC's, so I just send both, can't be too careful.

and the forms say you need the orignal upc for both rebate, which is impossible, but Office Max always takes a copy of the UPC if they know there is a manufacturer rebate too.

Beleive me I hate sending in rebates too, but for ten minutes of work and like $2.50 for tax and a stamp and all it is worth it.

Oh yeah and I tried SPD and it still was not completely stable.

It would bench once or twice and then crash or lock-up or something, but loops 3dmark for hours in single channel.

i got the same deal, bought two of them. hopefully will also try to oc my chip using 333mhz fsb, since my current ram cant do that.

I suggest you get yourself a copy of Memtest-86, and test the max stable speed of this memory... Mine gives me errors in test#5 at 166MHz and even 160MHz. 150MHz seems stable so far, will give it a few more runs. It seems they found out that even though they marked it PC2700, it cannot be run reliably at that speed, so they are downgrading those boys to PC2100...

But I don't think there is such a thing as "dual channel compatibility", just the quality of the memory is what matters...

I had no problem getting my K-Byte rebate from the the OM deals a month or two ago.

only problem with online is you don't know if you will get the PC2700 or the PC2100 stick???

But hey, FREE is FREE.

My motherboard only supports 2100 so I dont care

Yeah but hopefully you could use cas2,2,2,5 maybe if you can the PC2700 at pc2100, but should atleast be able to do cas2 minimum at pc2100 speeds.

Just a note..
I bought the PNY PC2700 a couple weeks back made by specteck and they are working dual channel
Fine in my 8rda+ Nforce 2 motherboard.

Hell I might have defective ram for all I know, but it worked fine in several systems, so that is kinda weird???

I will run MEMtest86 and find out, if it is bad i will just RMA it, It only cost $1.00 to ship a stick of ram, so its no biggie.
