Nexuiz is a free multiplayer FPS with the usual assortment of modes: DM, TDM, CTF, DOM, LMS, etc. Graphics are a little dated, UT99-esque. There's a few dozen servers available to play on and you can always run your own, of course.

"1848 is a turn based computer strategy game for the PC. The game is set during the violent era of the Hungarian Independence War of 1848-49. 1848 was a year of revolutions. Most of the uprisings were crushed quickly, but Hungary was an exception. While Austria was occupied in dealing with the independence movements in Italy, Hungary used the time to train and deploy a competent army.. The newly created Honved Army suffered some set-backs in 1848, but in the 1849 spring counter-attack, the whole country was liberated. Victory was sweet but short for Hungary ? in the summer of 1849 the Tsar of Russia intervened with 200,000 troops. In history, this force could not be stopped. Can you change history?"
 
I suggest adding Best Old Games which includes a lot of classics (and a link to a decent DOS emulator). Below are a few of the good ones I noticed (can't wait to start playing Theme Hospital again, my CD broke, i love killing patients):

You guys are making some nice suggestions. The topic really needs an update. Is anyone interested in submitting a nice organized edit?
 
Prodigious escapee gold is a logic puzzle game that i personally created , it was a shareware months ago but i turned it into freeware with the intention to drive traffic to the site, Sorry if the logo and the exit button annoy you .

It's still sticky, but I just hope the list is updated and the games in categories rather than by the names of ppl who contributed them.

Here's Mech Commander Gold and Mech Commander 2 - both very fun games.

I can't speak to the site's legitimacy, but it's been up uninterrupted from what I can tell for several months. I'd think M$ would have blasted them to the outer rim by now if they had any problem with it. It appears to me that they're probably OK with it just by virtue of pushing traffic to the Zone and GameSpy multiplayer portals.
