Free PC from Lindows

Microsoft was found guilty of anti-trust violations based on claims brought by the U.S. Department of Justice. Microsoft recently agreed to a $1.1 BILLION settlement to resolve numerous lawsuits alleging that Microsoft's behavior violated antitrust and unfair competition laws. This settlement brings with it some very good news for consumers!

I just did it and got a confirmation that PC's will begin shipping Jun 2004 but in the meantime you can download Lindows OS for free.

This is a total scam, and an attempt by the Lindows corporation to streal money from Microsoft (and to have you work as their conduit in doing the same). They lead you by the hand and tell you exactly what set of software you need to have "purchased" in order to get $100 back. THEN, if you lie (and most people will have to lie to get the entire $100, since you need to have, for example, purchased Excel separately from Office AND purchased Office, etc.) you can authorize MS to send you $100 to Lindows. And after Lindows gets your $100, you MIGHT get a PC if you're in the first 10000. If not, Lindows gets $100 of your money for nothing (but some worthless downloads...) Given how they've set the site up, I expect there will 100,000 or more people who do this. That's a cool $10 mil for Lindows Inc - the cost of some crap PCs. Knowing the gullability and greed of some people, I wouldn't be surprised to see the number go closer to a million...

Great scam. I think MS should be able to sue them one way or the other, since they are clearly encouraging you to lie...(Even people eligable for money won't the whole $100 back).

Loser company. You won't get anything from them except the feeling of knowing you helped line the execs' pockets.

The fact that they have an "Instant Settlement Wizard" should tell you something about their legitimacy, lol.

Agreed!! Damn Greedy Execs.

Save yourself some time and hassle, and get your settlement directly.

Having just purchased a laptop, I'd opt for that version. Interestingly, I am replacing a 6 year old laptop that came with Windows 95 pre-installed. Which I did not want. Booted Linux within a day.

I will be keeping Virus XP on my new laptop since the data entry forms for my work need Internet Exploiter.

So, keep it above board, and get your money yourself.

FYI, he is the MP3.com guy. I visited MP3.com for a potential law school externship. Their legal dept. was not top grade, totally disorganized.

Ditto - so tempted to do the paper form, but I just can't. Racking my brain for all the people I know that live in CA.

There is a similiar settlement for Florida. I recieved a very convoluted sttlement letter and the short of it is I would recieve coupons good for future purchases, not cash. The terms were similiar if not the same as the Cal. one. No website, though. You have to fill out the form. Reciepts may or may not be required. Just barely worth it. And I don't think Msoft will pay even 10% of the settlement amount. I'm sure some lawyers made out though. $1+ billion settlement. I imagine the fees are based on that and not the actual eventual payout. There oughta be a law....

The FREE PC may or may not be the same configuration as the images shown on the MSfreePC.com website.

In other words, maybe you're getting an ancient 486 or some other POS. Gee, wish I'd thought of this, have a lot of old crap PCs to get rid of!

The links all say duron 1.1, 256 mb ddr, no hdd (wierd, they say the OS runs from the cd drive, so I guess you can't personalize it). Drop $25 in it and it's a pretty good pc for your kid.
