10%? Darn, they used to have a 'free' regular membership that only cost 5% per purchase.

I remember shopping there when I was younger... Do they really have THAT good of deals? Is the $30 membership for a year?

Food's real cheap if you buy it in bulk.

For the tires I wanted, they were about $30 cheaper each than anyone else locally. The downside is having to wait there to have them do it. The trick is to buy one evening and then get there 15 minutes or so before the open the next day. That way you jump in front of anyone who has to go buy their tires... A pain but it is quicker that way.

It has good "regular" prices, if you don't have time/don't want to shop around they are usually cheaper, but they can't match other store's prices when they have sales.

In regards to the free pass, the 10% is really stupid for this promotion IMO. I mean, the whole point is to draw in new members, but the 10% just turns people off.

dont have much need for a brick of cheese or a gallon jar of pickles. too bad the surcharge applies. one would think the coupon is to get new members into the store.. so why charge extra 10% ?

I don't use Sams much, we have a costco membership, but I do like to keep one of these free pass coupons in the car in case Sams is just more handy or has something going on. Used to be Sams carried the Seville (metro style) wire racks and Costco didn't. Now they both have them, but different models and features, so I like to check on both.

I have memberships to both stores. I keep the Costco one only because the car insurance is so much cheaper going through Costco/American Express.

I primarily shop at Sam's Club - it's a weekly ritual

Sams>Costco. Sams is a slice of heaven compared to costco. The crowds at costco keep me away. Cart Rage is an ugly scene.

BTW, amex/costco insurance is dirt cheap. It was unbeatable here in socal on my new accord. I just hope being backed by reputible companies that they are good if i ever need to make a claim. I am paying less than $900 a year for full coverage on a new car with clean record in OC. Noone else was under $1100 (AAA, geico, brokers)

Do you still need a referral to join Sam's? I seem to recall that when my Dad joined a few years ago, he had to get a referral from a friend. My nearest Sam's is 60 miles away, but I'll likely be moving to that city within a year and I'm betting I'll want to join Sam's when I get there.
