Hi guys, Ive seen a few threads around on the forums but nothing really concrete on this subject.

I have a high download/low UL DSL connection, and i need webspace to hold small and medium sized movies/pic/whatever, a domain is not neccesarry but would be a nice perk.

Rough amt of space would be between 200 and 500MB, bandwidth of at LEAST 5GB/mo. http or ftp, as long as its accessible through IE or direct linking.

Redundancy/Reliability is not a major concern, there are backups of all these files id just have to upload again in the unlikely occurence of catastrophic data loss. However id prefer a host that isnt "KNOWN" for unreliability.

Ads and banners are not a concern as long as it isnt excessive (as in more than 4 on each page).

TIA :)

http://www.fateback.com/ is good

Impressive, 600MB/10GB for $9.95/mo
on the same token, readyhosting.com gives 500MB/unlimited bandwidth for $8.25/mo.

I used to think the caveat was their speed, but I requested a server move this past week (they have 60-something boxes) and my speeds are FAST now. Kinda pissed I didn't request it sooner. Their "one plan" gives you anything and everything you will need. I highly recommend them.

Very nice, this is looking like the best deal so far.

i don't think there is free webhosting..

I'm 100% sure that there is, and I plan on offering him some ;)

Free web hosting does exist but it does require a domain ($9/yr or less).

You get Apache Linux web hosting, no ads/banners, email/webmail, MySQL, Perl, CGI, PHP and cPanel or DirectAdmin.

I am currently hosting 50 or so free web sites for AT'ers.

i grabbed a few of the 1and1.com free 3 year trials. a friend of mine is actually running an ecommerce site off one of them, and it's working out fairly well (i did a bunch of PHP shiat for him).

too bad they stopped offering them, but you might wanna keep your eye open - 3 years for free and there hasn't been a catch yet (knock, knock)

I saw you already got a host, but with DSL you can set up and configure your own server and run it from your place. If speed isn't too much of a concern, then it might be worth it because then you have free hosting, no ads, and as much space as you want.

Speed is of very high concern, as noted in my original post.

fateback.com also gives free domain hosting for free. It costs $9.95/yr to register a domain!
