Opera 9 Beta - make the jump!
It truly is outstanding
Includes Widgets & BitTorrent!

Opera Widgets

Opera Widgets are small AJAX apps, for specific functionality ? like getting your favorite news, converting currency, etc. Documentation on Opera Widgets ? how to use them and how to make them.
Tabbed browsing

You can open multiple pages inside Opera. Try it by clicking on the "New tab" button in the top left corner. After opening it, close it by clicking on the red X.
BitTorrent

BitTorrent - one of the most popular file transfer protocols around. Built right in to the browser so you can download torrent files easily. No more hassle finding the right port or setting upload/download speed.

Wow, they sure made the interface look a LOT more like Firefox than it used to. But that's a good thing...It looks very nice. Opera used to have way too wacky of a UI, IMHO, but I don't think I've used it since maybe version 7. Will check out the 9 beta even though I'm convinced FF is the browser for me. 🙂

Did they ever change the auto name completion so that when you're typing in a web address, and you hit Tab, it completes it for you (the way IE and FF handle it)? That's the single feature that has kept me from using Opera as my main browser.

Meh.. it still lacks the functionality that one can get with FF + extensions. Even adblock works so much easier and better than Opera's "content blocker." Other browser behaviors still aren't as customizable as they should be, even something seemingly simple as mouse gestures.

They've made a lot of progress but I still can't switch.

i decided to give it a try and i really like it more than firefox... way more functional options.

Like what? For me, Opera is worthless.

Nice features but I don't like the fact that it's not possible to customize as much as FF. I'm sticking with FF but this is a good alternative to IE.

Opera really needs to add a better plug-ins platform like FF. They won't be able to make a good Ad Blocker as long as it will be directly associated with themself (yes... push off the blame to a third party).

But hey, I thank Opera for bringing tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, good skinning support/switching, and browsing sessions to the mainstream.

Well said & so true...

The one thing I love about Opera, is the auto reload, very good for like dell's outlet when they are having sales I can jsut set it and do other things....but othter than that FF all the way for me....it is also faster on my Intel mac 😀

I notice the mention of the "Sessions" in the new Opera 9.
I've inadvertently used this when creating a bunch of sites that I needed to keep from one "session" to the next by utilizing the "continue from last time" option under preferences. Now, sessions are a real thing! 😀😀😀

Edited: Comes in really handy for research or for on-going assignments, like college studies.

Likewise, I've found Firefox to be overhyped to the extreme and quite worthless for me.

One man's trash...

I like the fact that opera will auto-refresh a webpage. You can set different web page's with different refresh times/or no refresh times...ie one page might be every 5 min, another might be every 30 min, and another might not be set to auto-refresh at all...I know this is great for me at work, to keep my web apps from timming out.
