I've been using Antivir and its the best, it found viruses that most scanners missed including PC-cillin which I had heard was supposed to be the best...not. Antivir all the way.. BTW, those were genuine virus files.

Only problem is, there is no automatic update but updating is pretty easy.

Another thing you have to know about Antivir real time protection is that it works differently as it doesn't scan everything when you download it, however if you go to run any file it will scan that file only then. Some people like that, some people dont. Personally, I like it a lot as it hardly consumes any resources and is efficient enough.

The On Demand scanner works just like everyone else's.

To the poster who thought Antivir was malware putting virus' on the computer and then offering to remove it, that is simply not true. Antivir seems to label some of the virus files differently than the other scanners and therefore the names of the virus files wont correspond. I dont know why they do that but most of the virus files are labelled correctly with their generic name that's common to most scanners.

Antivir is easy to install and easy to uninstall (very clean) so might as well give it a try.

Quick question, does AVG reboot your computer and scan computer before windows starts? I looked through the program and it can't seem to do that? Help.

I wonder does Antivir and AVG free conflict with each other? I'm just wondering if there would be any problems installing both at the same time? I had Norton and AVG and had no problem.

Ever wonder is some of these programs "plant a virus, worrm or trojan" to make THEIR program look like it found something the last program you used didn't.

It's very suspicious when they find something the first time you use their program and the only reference you can find to that virus happens to be on THEIR website.

Hummm

Happened too many times to me.

Interesting.

Same boat here. AVG 7 found BackDoor.VB.DH and Proxy.18.AS on a machine deemed clean by NAV2k3.

Bump for a great av program. Perfect for P.I.T.S (parent IT support). My extended family's been using AVG for a while now.

This thread really needs to be locked. This is NOT a hot deal. AVG Free Edition is free, so there is nothing hot about it. You can get it for free at any time. OP, find a hot deal then post it, otherwise, don't bother. How about I start several threads about each of the free e-mail accounts you can make...Hotmail, Yahoo, etc?

It's obviously not a hot deal to you but it is for me.
You may like paying for anti-virus software.
You may like paying a annual fee to keep your anti-virus software up to date.

Not me.

Free = Hot :cool:

Actually, I use AVG Free Edition myself. So your theories are irrelevant. This isn't hot. I already knew about this software.

There's no arguing hot deals are subjective. If a good number of people didn't know about free e-mail services then, yes, posting information about Hotmail and Yahoo for free would probably be a hot deal for many.

Proof is in the pudding: have you seen how many people have responded to this this thread with "Thanks!" or "Was looking for av software, thanks! Didn't know about this before"

It's not that hard to simply not click on this topic if it's not a hot deal for you...
