Hey, at least I have a choice now. As for which is better.... I dunno, IE has too many browser specific sites already. I wonder if the damage has been done.

If you really think you uninstalled it you're on crack. And Opera can't touch IE.

I think I'll pass on this deal. If I want to use another browser I'll use Mozilla or the new Lite version, forget what it's called.
 
I downloaded and installed it. Comes with too much SPAM garbage. Off it goes. I remember moving to IE kicking and screaming, but it is still the better browser IMHO.
 
though i usually use IE, Opera is the far superior browser. I downloaded Mozilla/Netscape 7 to see what the hype was about and it was crap. I heard there is another browser that has similar features that make opera so good, i'll try look it up.
 
Anyone vote MyIE or Netcaptor..🙂

But both of them should count in IE..

I'm having problems with Opera 6.05 and these forums. I have the Java-based version, but I'm not able to respond to private messages, nor am I able to look at a user's profile. Plus, some other sites have issues with Opera. I think Opera has gotten better with each revision, but it's still not quite there yet. Maybe, 7.x will be the version to get "everything" right.

IE is many many many times less bloated than any other browser you can get today, Period.
 
Bought Opera about two years ago and there was a struggle getting to 6.05, but this Opera rocks, even on Anandtech.😎
(Of course, I am Norse but it still rocks 😀)

Anyone that says "IE is clearly the best browser right now" has NOT tried Mozilla 1.0 and newer. Seriously. I've used IE exclusively since 5.0 all the way to 6.0 SP1. I've always hated Netscape. Tried Mozilla 1.1 and I was like Holy Shiat! :-o How does anyone still use IE!?

One word "Tabs." Open a new link in a tab that will load in the background by simply middle-clicking on it. Try this, and you'll never use IE again.
Same process in IE 6: Right click, click open in new window, click back to the window you were on. Good god, that's 3 seperate clicks for one of the most common things you do in a browser...open new links!

Oh and mouse gestures? SWEET.
Skins a la winamp? Check.
Built-in Ad blocking? You Bet.

Why does anyone use IE again? 😕 Laziness I guess?

If you don't want to install a whole new browser try the "Mozilla-Lite" called Phoenix. You don't even need to run a setup! Just unzip and click the .exe. You get almost all the goodness of Mozilla but with more speed and a smaller size. If you don't like it, just delete the directory! It doesn't embed itself like IE, so what can you lose by trying it out?

I should mention, wait until Tuesday to get Phoenix. They're releasing a new version on the 8th. Might as well hold off until then 😉
 
BUT a lot of pages don't quite work right due to them either running stupid browser detection code(which thinks mozilla is hella old lol) or simply too IE optimized

I've been running Mozilla as default for about a month now and I'd say about 1% of the sites I've been to have a problem with mozilla. Quite simply, this is the web designers fault, but I understand that no one wants to experience any problems. Usually, the page is just rendered slightly wrong and that's it. Not really too big of a deal. Some times it doesn't work at all, but again that's 1%.

It comes down to this, would you rather be bombarded constantly with ads and miss out on serious time-saving features like tabbed-browsing, or have "lowest common demoninator" compatability with IE? I choose to just load IE ever blue moon when I *do* have a compatibility problem.

Sorry about all the comments in a row 😱 , but I have strong opinions on this browser selection topic because I used to be a hard core IE user like a lot of the people reading this...
 
Mozilla's obvious advantage over Netscape is the ad-blocking feature. To add this to Netscape, make sure the software installation option is enabled. This is done by going to Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Software Installation. This allows individual components to be added to the browser. Now download from this link: Netscape 7 ad-blocker
Click install on the installation window that pops up. After this is completed, restart Netscape, then go into Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Scripts & Plugins and uncheck "Open unrequested windows"

Hope this helps anyone that uses this new Netscape but found the popups as annoying as usual.

The only reason you think IE is less bloated is that you fail to realize most of the components are integrated into the OS.

I did it the hard way by editing the prefs.js file. 😉
 
Hm, I ordered a Netscape 7.0 CD for $2.99 more than a month ago, still no sign of it. I wonder how long it will take them to send a free CD 🙁 While I personally use Mozilla, some clients/friends want Netscape on their machines, so I thought to get a CD for easy install. Netscape is rapidly becoming a joke -- good browser, but crappy service.
