I'm in an email dialog with MS about how you qualify for NFR software. As previous posts alluded to, I think that they are going to be pretty stringent about handing it out from now on. If you have the free time, give it a whirl but I wouldn't hold your breath.

If someone has attended after the tech tv article came out who isn't a "professional" IT person AND got the certificate, I'd be happy to be proved wrong (I'm on the borderline of qualifying).

I work on a helpdesk, doing helpdesk & network admin work, myself and 3 others are attending the seminar in des moines, iowa tomorrow. None of us have business cards, or a work id we can present.

I've just emailed them to see what can be done, because i am one of the genuine IT professionals that wants to go.

Hoping they'll accept a pay stub that has my job title on it.

I was planning on attending anyway (I even received a phone call asking me if I wanted to attend) and in my reminder email, they mention nothing about showing ID to get the kit.

ABOUT YOUR GIFT!: All registered attendees will receive a complimentary attendee kit from Microsoft.
* Limit one kit per registered attendee while supplies last. Kits must be claimed on-site at the end of the event.

I don't have any ID since I run my own independant business.

At the event in Chico yesterday, there were quite a few students and old timers who had no clue what was going on. Talking about MBSA and SUS and such and you could see the glassy eyes just staring...

Even worse- some old guy was asking the presenter how to setup a website at the end. She was getting way too technical for him and when she mentioned he could run DNS on Windows or Linux, he immediately spouted off "I won't do that. That Linux stuff is crap!" I really wanted to pick up her laptop and beat him over the head until his bloody corpse stopped twitching. Instead I just waited for my free voucher (which was handed out separately from the bag).

They did ask at the beginning whether you were an IT professional or MS Partner. I am both. They had a form they checked off, but didn't ask to see my ID. But then again, I did show up late. All in all, I thought it was interesting and I would have liked to ask more technical questions.

I hope I get the stuff, I am a student but am also running a consulting business, mostly working with area schools and businesses, but don't have a business card printed up with a picture on it...I guess I could do that before March 4...that is annoying...understandable...but still annoying!

For those of you who are going to one, make sure that you are in the Technet seminar. If you are in an MSDN one then you wont get the free software.

i didnt know either.. cuz i sat through 4hrs of booorring MSDN stuff and had to argue wit the ppl for the voucher for the free software, since the MSDN does not qualify for the software voucher and the ppl there were giving me an issue about how MSDN that you were at doesnt neccessarily qualify for the free software.

In other simple words, just ask which one is the Technet one :D

Don't go retard. If all you want is the software, don't go. It's people like you that make them charge money for some events.

Does anyone have the email of the presenter who did the Chico show? She gave it out, over and over and I assumed it would be in the pack at the end. Whoa- to my dismay it is not.

Did you make it to the meeting? I hope you went because they didn't ask for proof even though they said they would, I think that was tossed out the window because of the snow storm.
The drive home was terrible.

LLLosingit, i did make it, not sure if i'll get the software, i made the mistake of putting the company i work down as partner, and it said on the website they would have to confirm with the company before i could choose my software. not heard anything since !

the other 3 people i went with made up company names, and registered as a partner.

seminar was good though, got me interested in virtual pc 2004, got it installed on my laptop now, and installing lindows (don't laugh) onto it now
