Free Metro 2033

for those who still don't have this game...

THQ is giving away the PC version of moody first-person shooter Metro 2033 for free.

All you have to do is like the Metro Facebook page. Once done, reveal the Steam code, load up the app and download the free copy of the game for Windows PC.

The deal follows Metro 2033's inclusion in the Humble THQ Bundle, which has generated payments of $4.5 million.

The embattled US publisher is raising cash as it battles to keep the business afloat following a crippling 12 months.

It's currently talking to a mystery financier in the hope that further investment will secure the release of 2013 games Metro: Last Light, Company of Heroes 2 and South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Planning to buy stick of truth when (if?) it comes out, but I'd rather pay full price for Metro 2033 than sign up for facebook. That said, can't beat free...

This giving away Metro 2033 for free on Facebook promotion seems like a strange move.

Let's see.....you've got a company in financial trouble. They need cash. They have a sale. They put Metro 2033 on sale. Then before the sale is over, they start giving it away.......

Maybe that's an example of why they're in trouble in the first place.....

The more people they can get to play Metro 2033, is the more possible sales they can achieve on Metro Last Light. This is opening up the game to people who have never played it before, and some haven't even heard of it.

They just need to finish and release Stick of Truth. The South Park brand ought to be able to at least help them break even on that investment, and you know they'll advertise it like crazy on Comedy Central. Should provide a good shot in the arm.

Will the code work after today (the 16th) as long as I have the code and the app? I'm about to migrate to a new system, so this is important to me.

Edit: I just used Steam. It's all good now.

Hey for those who got in on this. I copied the reveal code but forgot to download the file metro2033.exe in the instruction. After closing the window, I can't get back to it. What is the link to the file?

Thanks in for one. Link is Webassets.thq.com/metro/metro2033.exe
Though I'm not sure why you would need it once you enter the steam key can't you DL it from there?

EDIT: Once you have your key which was on the same page you can activate and install it from Steam...

Ok thanks for the info. I thought they might make you jump through another hoop to get the actual Steam code.

Thanks OP!

It is "live" again (missed it before the first expiration)

Thank you! I'm glad it kept getting bumped, I had forgotten about this. I actually have a separate FB account for this kind of stuff, but wasn't going to do it at work when I first saw this thread.
