If you have a high end machine, you can check out some new technology such as high range dynamic lighting in this new level for Half-Life 2. This is basically a tech demo of some new features in the Source engine, but I say any new Half-Life is a good thing. Start Steam (no, I don't like it any more than you), and it will check to see if your system meets the requirements.

I have a system very similar to RMSistight and it looks gorgeous - it looks like HDR was done just for the heck of it, but you have to see it to believe. The nVidia screens may only have been a slight exageration ;). System raper though :p

Doubt my system meets requirements....

Guess not...my cpu needs to be 2.9ghz....gotta over clock more I guess.
Video card however doesn't appear to be "HDR" capable? so even if I guess my CPU up, my video card "sucks"

Oh well....

What's sad is that when I had a 75mhz computer, it only had 16mb ram, and didn't even have a 3d video card. Oh and it was a 100mb hd

Wow I've never heard of a 486/K5/Pentium 75 with only a 100MB HD :p - they typically had 500+MB.

Our 486 came with a 120mb HD.

BTW: My system: Athlon XP 1800, 1GB RAM, Ti 4200: Played everything alright until the end and you are on the rafters going to the elevator. Then I was getting like 0.04FPS. As long as I looked up and not out or down I was fine.

You've all inspired me. I've got a Tandy 1000 SX that I'm trying to play lost coast on now. Only problem is I don't seem to have enough 5.25" disks to fit Steam on... or a hard drive. Anyway, I'm sure the 16 color glory will be well worth the effort.

If you want to see some other pretty HDR effect, check out this site. Be prepared to spend some time just kind of staring and drooling on yourself, though. Seems like I wasted a good hour staring at this thing and playing with settings the first time I started it up. The lights... so... beautiful...

I don't think it matters if you meet the requirements, you can still download it and play without HDR. So if you just want some more HL2 action, you can do it.

Why post those replies boasting about your system? If you offer performance feedback, thats one thing. However, to say "<sarcasm>look at my system, wonder if it will run it</sarcasm>" is idiotic. So you bought a fast computer, will you feel that much better if others know you have it? I guess the answer to that is yes.
