Free Linux Firewall/Router

Old information (many many posts), but good none the less. For you potential flamers out there, hold off. I have used freesco for over 6 months, checked the link in the post anyway, found out there is a new version released, today!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't it supports PPPoE yet. But if you have a connection other than PPPoE, it rocks! I used it for many months on an old 486 until I got my SMC Barricade router.

This is as useful as a "Free Internet Explorer" or "Free RedHat ISO" post.

All Linux distro's are free for download. Get a clue.

If you don't have anything nice to say...

Yes, its true Linux distros are free. But does everyone know about all the different distributions that are available. I found about FreeSCO because someone on Anandtech took the time to post it.

Man, what a troll...

There is Linux support for PPPoE. At the moment, a good choice is the Roaring Penguin PPPoE software (available freely). For the future, PPPoE support will be in the 2.4.x series of the Kernel, currently slated for December. Any linux distro will do really (they can all be configured to help with internet sharing), my personal favorite is Slackware, but it's often said that it's not for the "faint of heart" whatever that means. More than likely the document you'd be interested in is the HOWTO document on "IP Masquerading"... which can be had at the Linux Documentation Project. Good luck!

EDIT: Note that while all distrobutions are available for download freely, some lag behind in updating their FTP servers, and with several companies, the downloaded version lacks key packages, which means time wasted locating and compiling, unless you can find RPMs, which still means time lost locating

If you don't know about Linux distros / routers and want to find out, go read the Operating Systems and / or the Networking forums. If you're really really curious, post a question there.

I'm not a troll. The Original Poster is Off Topic and you are his Gay FanBoy.

This isn't offtopic. And you're right: you're not a troll: you're a nef. You've been here probably, what? 2 days and already you're talking smack. Calling people gay fanboys. Learn to use the term correctly or don't open your mouth.

gurulegendary -- freesco does not support PPPoE yet. That's why roaring penguin was suggested.

But you are right. Their web control panel rocks! I can make freesco router headless, and perform basic commands from the web control panel.
