Free Linux CD's!

Thanks. I just ordered the Redhat 7.0 Beta and Mandrake 7.1 through them. I'm posting this response through Redhat Linux/Netscape 4.72 now.

Might download Star Office 5.2 from Sun Microsystems next for my SPARC 20 (Solaris) and for this Linux box.

Linux is free anyway... You can download these and burn them through the official site. Not exactly a good deal... The linux distrubutions in the stores cost money because they come with the support AND the user manuals 😛

It's still a good deal. It saves you the trouble of downloading a 650 MB image and burning to a blank cd of your own. Besides, it gives you the chance to try a different distro maybe or just give a copy to a friend.

good deal indeed, i would say. I think we all know that most linux distributions are free for downloading, but yeah seriously, even on a campus ethernet connection, I'd rather be sent a pre-recorded cd than have to sit through 650 megs of downloading. plus it includes all those pogo extras, whatever those are.. and the 30 days tech support (amazing, how do they do that? 😛)... and to top it off, it probably have a nice printed label too. much better than downloading.

Uh, anyone know what the heck the Pogo 'enhancements' are? I really hope it's not just some stupid "POGO" taged rightiously all over the place or anything.

Thanks iv'e never tryed another OS other then winNT and Win98 don't know if i ordered the right ones or not i ordered red hat 6.2 and the beta 7.0 ,Im building another system and would like to try this -Thanks again

pogo enhancements - new ways to exploit and hax0r your linux box. For marketing purposes they reserve a root login on your box to see what you are doing and where you are going.

no

wait
thats AOL linux

no wait

i'm just kidding, but seriously, dont be mad if you put up a linux box the first time and its gets hax0red, theres a lot of stupid distributions still in print which have some very easy security breaches by default.

i used to remember when linux came on floppies, and installed with a blank root password, people would be so happy to get online and irc and be cool, we'd just go telnet in and
rm -rf /* their drive.. muahha. thats bad, but be careful. seriously.

Just ordered 2 of each, they say they will be shipped in a couple of days. We will see. 🙂

BTW CRUSIN1 STFU. I guess you did not read the rules about thread crappin. Or what your mommy taught you "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything"

This is a hot deal, no shipping, no cc #, no rebate forms, FREE EVERYTHING.

Sorry if you don't think this is a hot deal, Cruisin1, but let me defend my case a little bit. If you have to download the whole linux distribution you are using bandwidth and time, both of which cost money in some form. THEN after you get it downloaded you have to burn it on a cd, of which you must provide. So if you don't think it's a good deal that's fine and dandy, but I am sure others will think otherwise.

<<Limit of 2 CDs per week per address.>>

I have never used linux before but I am interested in trying it. Which two should I get?
