I was thinking about trying it on my wife's old laptop until I noticed the min requirements are 800mhz :Q

I had it running on a 633 celeron, ran just fine. I didn't like it all that much, but it is free. changed to suse linux 8.2 pro, much better for me.🙂

I've got it running on my HP Omnibook 3100, a 233mhz laptop w/ 96mb of RAM. It's a little sluggish but it works - even recognized my Netgear wireless card.

how come all other linux os's are free except this?
Well every company has to make $ - some make it on Support, some on Apps, etc. Linspire is probably making nothing on sale of OS, but make it on subscriptions to their warehouse of software apps. They present a very easy-to-use desktop Linux where your hardware is recognized (usually) & everything works, clickety-click. No tarballs, no tweakin the kernel, etc. Just pick your program & click - its installed and working.

I would think that would violate their agreement, since technically we are paying 49.95 for this. We just used a coupon to get it to 0.00.

Oh and there are using some type of login for the ftp that is unique for each user also.

Interesting, but after I follow the directions given, I'm redirected back to the first page that I encounter, asking for my e-mail address. Am I required to provide that?

Ahem... suse 🙂

Thx for this post, just got a new laptop, will try this thing out and see how it goes.

You can install SuSE for free. Just get the netboot ISO off their site and start installing. Sure, you don't get some things that come on the disc because they aren't free but what you do get is the equivalent of any other free distribution.

It *is* Lindows. They changed the name because they got sued by MS.

Does it support 802.11G cards? If it does, I might download it and extract it for my own use (I care not really for Linspire, but if they have support, then its all good)

Suse is free.. 😕
and Linsipire should be also, at lease some version of it...

What an annoying storefront that is. I gave up after five minutes-it wasn't worth it inputting all that personal and financial info, even for a free OS.
