What do you think Apple are going to use the cash for?

Probably a massive educational program with aid in Africa centered around iPads and Macbooks as teaching tools.

Or at least that's one way they could do some good with $100 billion.
I hope they do something philanthropic.

I give credit to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for doing good work like combating malaria.
It would change the image of Apple in my mind if they could try and match that, at least (a little over $25 billion committed thus far).

That's also enough money to give each public school student in America an iPad 3 to replace textbooks and load it up with educational software, homework tools, a "send to teacher" function for submitting work, etc. Or they could just keep them in classrooms, and use them as "desks" a la Ender's Game. I would love to play the Giant's Drink game .

Thats quite a good one. I was thinking they might but some fabs and/or other hardware producing stuff.

They might.

Even if they went and funded useful projects with only a small percentage of that money (ones that could be profitable for them, as well) like Raspberry Pi, I would be happy. Nothing beats making money for your company, employees and shareholders and helping those in need. Teach men to fish.

This is a great idea. It would get their stock price down to a more affordable level in no time. However, assuming they aren't all nuts, I am guessing stock buy back or dividend.

Yeah, to the point where it looks like a massive stampede every spring.

I saw a documentary on Netflix about this, it's insane how many people are traveling during the national holidays (mostly to/from Southern China), and how overloaded public transportation gets.
They need to improve working conditions, have actual unions instead of shill ones that report you for causing problems, and give more time off so you don't have hundreds of thousands of people moving at once. People actually suffer and some even die in some of those migrations.

We should put more pressure on companies here, not just Apple but Microsoft and other companies that partner with Foxconn.
We can't do much to Chinese companies, but we can certainly demand more of the American companies that sell us products manufactured there.

But the government is scared.

There is no reason a company should be able to manufacture something in China, ship it all the way across the ocean, and still have it cost less than we can produce the product.

The real answer would be to have the buying force refuse to buy anything made in 3rd world conditions but everyone loves their shiny toys and Walmart goods.

I'm up over 72% on AAPL since March 2011. Although I wouldn't turn down an extra "few percent", I'd prefer that they do something that drives the stock price up eleventy billion percent.
