The one i know so far is altavista
is there any other good one?
I got MSN now and I had just subscribed
for 1 year paying 6 month and 6month free
I got sucked in to. :(
Is free good, I mean is it hard to log on to
any inconvenient?
Is anyone using it, and is pleased with it?
I'm thinking of switching to it soon
after this one expires.

http://www.freewwweb.com
You can set it up in Dial up networking and there are no annoying ad bars to deal with. Just go to the site, register, pick your screen name and password, as well as get a local access number, then set it up. :)

Remember to use Freewwweb as your start page. I believe they require you to do that. Also, one of the most common mistakes in setting up your free email account is not having all three w's in the freewwweb.
Mail.freewwweb.com
smtp.freewwweb.com
Make sense?
Enjoy! :D

I think I've tried most in the past few months. The best was worldspy till they changed to juno. And for some reason with freewwweb IU have never been able to connect and I've tried registering 3 diff times.

Now I am using either http://www.freei.net or netzero. Freei has no ads if u simply make a dun for it and it works just fine for me. Netzero normally does have ads but I learned a simple trick to remove the ads and now netzero works well for me too. It's good to have at least 2 free isp accounts in case one gives u any trouble. ;)

...and always remember the old adage --"There is no such thing as a free lunch." Receiving something from free, like free dial-up service, comes at a cost...I found out freedsl.com was selling not only the demographic information from the users, but the url's we frequent most, etc, etc....no banners is a plus, though =)

My connection is alway 52Kbps
unlike my ISP it was alway 49.333bps
Yes I have a very good modem.
Thank you so much for all your help.

For those that are having trouble with freewwweb.com
Once you finished registering it will ask you to download
a program called setup.ins
When asked to download it, click on execute it and run it
Will then install a second dialup automatically for you
Can't get any easier can it?
Do what you can to save money.
Otherwise I be paying 22 a month x 12 = 264 $$$ a year
with all that saved up you can buy upgrade for your computer instead.
Wouldn't that be cool, that what I'm trying to do.
Screw them AOL, MSN, Mindspring, Bellnet etc
If I could get electricity for free, water for free,
food for free, hey why not?

I really see the near future where dialup 56k access will be free, and broadband will be what we pay for. Makes sense...

here is my take,
worldspy was best till they went under (they were fast, had no banners, a dun connection, and let you use your own email program like outlook).
juno makes you use their silly software... and to dailup and check email.
freei doesnt let me use my email programs (but is ok so far just as a connection).
netzero does support email and is still pretty reliable once you get it to work your way (what i use now).
freewwweb does have email support too, but they have time limits/restrictions and its pretty flaky (i found out about that through their tech support).

I agree; As competition and efficiency increases, we'll see more and more "perks" being offered to gain market share....Free Dial-up as a back-up to broadband is no doubt one of them....

...Just my $.02; keep the change =)

I wish I had $.02 to give you, sir. I, however, have to work my fingers to the bone to pay for my $8.95 monthly ISP charges =)

...I need a job.

I did it exactly as they instructed to on their site Hyper99, and I did download that software. Each time I got connected it kept giving me that "invalid username or password" message. And I tried redoing everything and re-registering and still the same thing. Maybe the access numbers her are messed up, I don't know. No biggie though, the others I use work fine.

Blade they occasionally go thru a weekend server problem on new registrations or other delays getting your info into their database. I'm sure they can help you, if you want the free service. Contact them the first of the week, or email them.

You have to run signup.ins, not setup.ins sorry my mistake.

once you ran it, windows will ask if you want to change
the network setting.
Answer yes, and you will see alot of disk activity
look in your dial up networking folder
and you should see a dial up called
freewwweb.com
I do not recommend you manually enter yourself in the
dialup networking, it is a pain.
and it is best to run with IE 4.0 or IE 5.0
Do not download their browser it is a pain to setup
and it is not required.
use a text editor and look at your signup.ins
and you will see alot of setting been made for you under your handle, password and alot of other setting.
It also automatically setup email address for you, using
outlook express.
I got it working the first time so I don't see how you can't.
Redo everything all over choose the second option
which say you already got a browser.

You can do this while you are connected.
I say I wish knew about these free service before signing up for MSN
because I was tricked into the 1 years service regardless if I want to
cancel now or later they will charge me the same amount :(
EVIL Provider if you ask me, MSN is from Microsoft and they suck like AOL. They have alot in common don't they?
Crisis, I pay for windows98, now I'm paying them even more
Did you know there a free ASDL service too but it is harder to get
because it hasn't been around that long yet.

How about Free Telephone services too?
Bellsouth would go out of business huh. LOL
Oh I knew alot of people that are willing to cancel their membership
and get free ISP
Oh don't forget you still got to pay for your telephone services
But is already pretty good cutting your bill in half. :)
