Free hosting?

Ok this thread is to make a nice big list of all the free image hosting, video hosting, music hosting and file hosting websites out there.

Also I'm going to put a poll as to why all these sites do it for free.

Without starting a new thread... Can someone please explain to me why the use of bandwith costs money once you can past the startup and upkeep costs?

Imageshack doesn't take away your rights to your images which is very important to me

also google video doesn't either

putfile.com does take your rights away

If you look ya there are some really cheap hosting options for different types of hosting. I myself think its mainly for the ads and also for some its for the rights of your stuff.

I currently host ~30 AnandTech'ers for free:

Because they are nice - Sometimes I'm nice, depends on the day.
They make money on the ads on the side - I have zero ads, no banners, or spam
They get all the rights to what ever you upload. - Nope, just make sure everything you do is legal
They believe in free things - Not really, I just like to help people out who want free web hosting

I currently host ~80 AnandTech'ers for free:

Because they are nice - Usually that's the case.
They make money on the ads on the side - I never place ads, or ask the people that I host for free, to put ads on their sites.
They get all the rights to what ever you upload. - Not possible, unless they have a very fancy tos. Whatever you write is automatically owned by you.
They believe in free things - No, personally I actually believe that you get what you pay for, but it can't hurt to help people out.

devious trap, the fancy tos, go and look at putfile tos. They do take your rights.

Not exactly, what they put in their TOS won't hold up in court. If I upload a picture that you took they will say they have the rights to that file, but technically speaking, if never had the right to that picture in the first place so you still have all rights to it.

If you upload your own content then yes, you are giving them all rights to it. There are plenty of places that don't take away your rights, I personally wouldn't upload my own content to putfile because of that clause

O ya I meant as in your own things. Not pictures from friends etc. you puting them on there.

I think you managed to find one of the few sites that put something even remotely close to that in their TOS. For example, find it in ImageShack's TOS (http://reg.imageshack.us/content.php?page=rules)
