He means, he never knew Cyber Rebates came back. Cyberrebates had stuff really overpriced, you sent in for them, submitted the rebate for the full price, and then supposed to receive it back within 8-10 weeks or so (the money I mean). Basically they went under before they sent any of the rebates out. I had a friend who lost 300-400 bucks...although it was on stuf he wouldn't have bought if he didn't think it was free...so basically a big scam.

OH this isnt anything like that.. This is offered by FEMA, in response to the WTC attack. the WTC left alot of bad air and dust and stuff in people's houses. I am applying myself. this is totally legit. the money is coming from a state funded program, so go ahead, apply you NYC residents.

Thank you much...my daughter lives in NYC and has had a serious escalation in her asthma problems since 9/11. She is going to a special asthma clinic to help her get through it and keep her from being hospitalized for it (yes, it can get that bad) and losing any more workdays for being sick. Funny, I passed this on to her and she said the clinic with specialists in pulmonary asthma and copd care didn't have any information regarding this. I would think they should have had it to pass it on. This may help her a great deal and is much appreciated by me and her :)

Although I would love to believe this is true, please read below, and see attached link.

I attempted to call the above number, but only got a run-around-press-1 for more info....

Tesser.

New York, NY -- In recent days, flyers have been distributed throughout Manhattan claiming that residents with air-quality issues could get "free" airs purifiers and HEPA filter-equipped vacuums through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Many of these promote a special, non-FEMA number to call.

While clean-up equipment has been made available to qualified individuals, recovery officials with FEMA stress that this equipment is available only through registering with FEMA. Assistance is determined on a case-by-case basis, and original receipts are required.

"We urge everyone to take this promotion with a grain of salt," said Federal Coordinating Officer Ted Monette of FEMA. "The best option for those individuals needing assistance is to apply through FEMA's registration line in order to be considered for all federal assistance they may qualify for."

Those whose households were close into the World Trade Center site and had heavy dust accumulations, for example, are more likely to qualify for such equipment than those farther away. Individuals who live near the WTC site should call FEMA at 1-800-462-9029 to be considered for any form of disaster assistance.

That's some good info Tesser. The purifiers that FEMA offers are not for sale. If you live in the lower Manhattan area, you can go pick one up at one of the offices on Chambers Street. I don't know the exact address, but you just have to provide identification. I'm not sure what the requirements are, but I live a few blocks away from WTC, so I qualified. Try calling the Lower Manhattan Development Corp for more information. Hope this helps anyone in need for an air purifier.

<< GUYS GUYS, dont go buy it now... apply... if you are approved, then go buy it ! >>

actually the guy i spoke with today told me that you have to buy the items and then submit your receipts to them for a refund. he said once you get your Registration ID# from FEMA and register with the Grant Program you can't get turned down. i guess i should get that in writing! i did have to get my homeowners insurance (renters insurance) to fax the Individual and Family Grant Program a letter stating that my policy does not include reimbursement for air purifiers, vacuums, or the like. i found some pretty sweet air purifiers though...check out the models by blueair.

:confused:A little off topic- but does anyone know how the air quality is in the vicinity of the WTC site presently? Are there still air quality issues, despite the EPA testing? Are people living in the vicinity experiencing respiratory problems now, or is the area sufficiently cleaned up. Thanks for any info.

I live a mile away from the former WTC, Air was bad for weeks and weeks, months and months but my nose doesnt find anything nowadays, I guess what this program is for is that all that smell gets trapped in your carpet, in your AC's works, etc etc, and this is an effort for them to clean it all up.

It's been a while since 9/11.. i would imagine the air situation should've gotten a lot better.. guess not. I'd like to say lucky NYC residents but that's not exactly right. Anyway have fun with your cool free stuff :D

PS. mail me the filter hehe.

Well as for air quality, I was down at Stuyvesant High School(about 4-5 blocks from the WTC) because my brother got into the school(hehe it's my alma mater), and there were a bunch of parents handing out fliers asking for help to clean up the air from all the lead poisoning that apparently is waaay above EPA levels in the building...

I figure it's not the only building with this problem, of course this lead poisoning is in addition to the dust all over the place.

On a slightly off note, one of the parents who was trying to get the parents to sign some petition crap didn't even bother to try and get us to sign anything. He sort of looked at us but then just didn't bother...stupid white bastard...(not that I dislike white people in general, this guy just was doing this whole shunning other races thing...), like somehow I wouldn't care that the air was filled with poison or some sh*t logic like that.

*sigh*....no wonder their kids are the way they are.... :(

I suppose all this crap is creeping up largely because of 9-11...ironic in a way....

I doubt I'd qualify for this, although to be honest the air quality city-wide was compromised...not just downtown new york....still, I understand the government probably doesn't feel like giving everybody $800 worth of new ACs and HEPA filters lol
