i found this under my son's bed & we don't plan on using it- Ultra-120 Xtreme. . . .so i've decided to give it away to the lovely folks here on anandtech. . . .it would be nice if you use it for a noble cause like Folding@Home/ DC, but i suppose i can't stop you from using it for world domination

I have one system that needs it, running on a stock cooler. Can only get 3 ghz on a E7200. I will take it !

And as you can see, I am number 2 for Team Anandtech on F@H, so it will be doing exactly what you want. Let me know if you want shipping or anything, I am in Oregon

Good luck on finding the Xigmatch 1283. :) I know how those things can get "lost" at your ex's place. :p

A witch captures 20 dwarves and plans to eat them. She gives them one chance to escape. The day before she eats them, she lines them up, single file, and casts a spell so they can only see the dwarves in front of them. They are each given a hat, either red or blue, and the number of each is unknown to the dwarves. The only thing they can say is either red or blue, and if it is the color of their hat, then they live. They are given enough notice to strategize. What strategy will save the most dwarves?

While in the single file line, the dwarves do an about face to see the dwarf that is now in front of them. They do another about face and hold up one finger behind their back if they saw a red hat or two fingers if they saw a blue one. The dwarf in the front of the line is hozed and better be a good guesser.

PS: I just came here to thank lightstar for the generous offer.

I agree. There is also a 50% chance that he survives too. ;)
As someone said in an other thread in this forum: not too shabby! :D

Thanks for the riddle - but it could have been harder.

Thanks for the great donation, congrats Mark for getting the cooler! :)

Sorry, but they can't turn around. "The witch casts a spell so they can only see the dwarves in front of them. And they can only say red or blue, with no actions (must've forgotten that).

have the dwarf behind you tap on your Right shoulder if your hat is Red & Left shoulder if your hat is blue. . . .this works for the first 19 dwarfs. . . .then the last dwarf is out of luck and only has a 50/50 chance of survival

On topic, and a hard riddle...

The latest Halman (fictitious company) heat sink is a near-perfect sphere. To emphasize this, Halman has packaged them in perfectly spherical plastic packaging, 10cm in diameter. Your boss has told you that you have to figure out how to pack as many of these heat sinks as possible (in their packaging) into 1 meter cubical boxes for bulk shipment. But don't smush any of them; can't afford to have any of those fins bent!

How many Halman heat sinks can you fit in each box? Careful; I hear your boss is looking for someone to lay off!

Assuming the hats are randomly placed on the heads, then each dwarf would say the opposite color of what they see on the head of the one in front of them. If the hats were red/blue alternating, then all but the first would live, but that is not going to happen, but MOST would live with my logic.

And it came today BTW, and thanks again ! Will be installing it tomorrow.

Ah, the old sphere packing problem!

I would put a few into box and vibrate or shake the box to get them to settle. I would repeat this step until I had a full box.
