Im really thinking of pulling the trigger on a 512mb ssd, but I need to make an exact copy of the drive Im using now. I want it so I can unplug my old drive and have the ssd take over. If it matters Im using a 500gig IDE hdd, windows 7 64bit ultimate, 8 gigs of ram, and Im thinking of getting this:

So any help in doing this, if it can be done, would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT
Would getting this version solve my problem??

I appreciate all the help, but after watching some videos, I think Im going to go with the drive that includes the data transfer wire and cd. Its only $10 off NE and seems to do what I am asking for it to do.

Thanks guys!

Well I broke down and bit the bullet. Im going ssd.
I bought the Crucial 512gb one with the data cable. I got TD to price match NE and I bought a 2.5 to 3.5 enclosure so I can put it in my case the right way other then letting it hang in the case.

Cannot wait, 30 second boot ups here I come :)

Holy crap on a stick! Load time from shut off to up and running, 42 seconds! The cloning cable and software that come with the drive worked like a charm. Took 2:15 minutes to transfer over 350 gigs of data. Well worth the extra $10 I paid to get the drive, cable, and software. Cannot wait to see how fast my games and programs start up now :)

All I know so far is that SSD's are the shit. I see what all the hype is about.

EDIT
GRiD loaded up wicked fast. I think just like going from dial up to high speed has spoiled me, I think going from a platter drive to SSD has done the same. This really kicks ass. I just want to keep turning off my computer and turning it on just to see how fast it loads. And my old drive was all garbled up. I could just imagine a fresh install, damnnnnnnnnnn.

Some details please? How does it work? I assume steps like
a. install their software
b. connect new drive to computer using cables provided
c. run software to clone old drive to SSD
d. shut down, remove old drive, install new drive
e. reboot

Was that as simple as that? I ask because I tried one such kit (long ago, pre-SSD days) and remember it was a lot of trouble to get it to work.

A. Install included disk and shut down pc
B. Hook cable to SSD then to open usb port.
C. Start PC, it will boot off disc.
D. Answer a few questions like what drive to clone and to what new drive.
E. Let it do its thing.
F. When done, shut down pc. Unhook cable. Install into pc and turn on. Eject disc right away before it boots off it again.
G. Done. PC will install new driver upon first boot, then it will ask to reboot, do so, and thats it.

So far all my programs/games work, so it didnt miss a step that I can find. It truly is amazing how fast my pc boots up now. I used to have to sit here and wait, and wait, and wait for about 3-4 minutes, maybe longer, but now its boot, desktop, skype loads right away, done, ready to go. 43 seconds it took to load up this morning from off. I am soooooo glad I did this, I was really getting pissed off having to sit here and wait forever for my pc to boot, or a game to load. I could go make some coffee and when I got back it would still be loading. When I used to smoke I would turn it on, go out and smoke, come back in right when it was finishing. It really took that long off my old IDE hdd. So yeah, maybe even 5 minutes seems right for thats about how long a smoke lasts.

Can you tell how happy I am? :p

OH, should you decide to go my route, I picked up my drive from Tiger Direct. I could of gone NE but then I would be charged tax and shipping. Anyway, if you are charged tax too, all you got to do is call up TD and ask them to price match NE and they will. I do it all the time. If they cant match ask them how cheap they can go and sometimes it comes out cheaper then NE since you wont have to pay tax. For me they are next state over from me so I get my stuff within 2-3 days just like I would if I ordered from NE. But point is, should you go this way, and TD wont charge you tax, they will match NE's $409.99 and ship for free where NE is also charging not only tax, but shipping as well. I used the $10 I saved and bought a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter :)
