Free hardware to STAY AHEAD OF BBR and EVERY DC project boost thread! (post your extras and your needs here)

EDIT: I've thought about it and if you have hardware that you would like to go somewhere other than SETI, post it here too....also, if you need hardware (cheap small stuff) to get something going for any DC project, please do the same. While I'm sorta in a heated thing chasing BBR, I tend to look at SETI only (Bad Engineer, BAD! 🙁 )...so post them if you need them or have them. We're all on the same TeAm! 😀

If you have or need "free" (other than shipping) hardware to get another rig going, post it here.

Edit: Taken by Freewolf (sorry for my late update, I feel asleep after FW's first PM).

Edit #2: Freewolf noticed that JW and DM could get the systems up faster and has decided that they should get the processors. Great TeAmmate...😀 (Great TeAm)! 😀 ( I Salute you Freewolf)! 😀

I have 2 AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz chips (will run in MP board) to give to a good SETI1 finisher (then whatever project you want). I need shipping (USPS) costs but will donate the processors. I'll throw in the heatsink/fans too. PM me if interested. If you're interested, please use them as we really need any boost that we can get right now! 🙂

That's all I have for now...will search later! 😉

I can't PM, but I have an AMD MB here in need of a CPU.

JW has another system in need of a AMD cpu so could send both here and I will get one over to JW.

Edit: Great Robert 🙂

Just let me know which address to do the Paypal and amount. I can't PM back, you can e-mail me direct at dmcowen@bellsouth.net

I have a bunch of pc133 ram (64 and 128 chips) that I could donate if anyone needs some to get a machien up and runnin'.

I have a stick of laptop pc66 64mb ram thats available for the cost of shipping.

I also have a 128mb pc2700, but I need to get some money for that. Its a pull from a dell poweredge 400sc.

Right on! This is a well timed thread. We can all pull together and put together some crunchers!

As an alternate solution I have two Tbird 850 rigs ( apart right now) I could get going for SETI . The cost of the electricity to run them is holding me back. They are only good for six or so WU a day (combined). I retired them from DC for the cost ratio standpoint. I think I have enough stuff to fire them back up . If anyone is interested in springing for juice via hardware or cash I can get these crunching for your account. I have six rigs crunching for D2OL right now. I will be doing some SETI with those before it is over. I am waiting for a definate end date for SETI. Looks like you guys are doing good, not panic time yet. Nevertheless ken008!s rent a lame rig is open for buisness. I will only run these short term, eight rigs in a one bedroom apartment is a bit much! Closed for the summer!

I have 2 Asus A7N266-vm mobos (Nforce1) laying around. These are refurbished mobos I got for cheap. I have 1 case w. PSU. If anybody has stuff to help me get these up and crunching I'll gladly accept it.

I can get another case+PSU if I know I get other stuff to get these running.

I also have a Celeron 400Mhz old Compaq laptop, with only 32Mb memory. Some more memory could get that up and running too. (Though I think it only does 1WU a day...)

Those A7N266-vm mobos are good, I have one here doing 7 WU a day on average.
I think they will take the Tbird chips too, I have an 2400xp in mine.

well, i got a p2-233 w/ mobo etc thats just waiting for an ATX PSU.... tho i MAY be getting one in the near future but that's not definate 🙂

Yup, they'll take about any chip. I have currently 2 already running with XP2200+.

Our gracious Freewolf has "stepped" aside so that DM and JW could get first dibs as they seem to have systems that could be up and running faster....very nice gesture. David, I sent you a PM...but I noticed that you can't PM? (Why can't you PM?) If that's the case, post here or you can e-mail me (addy in profile).

Let me know....

Special Kudo's to Freewolf.......the offer to let someone jump ahead to get a quicker system is mighty nice! 😀

Back at you! 🙂

While I'm at it, anyone have a small IDE HD (2G or so) that they would like to donate to me? I'll pay a few bucks shipping! 🙂

This wouldn't get a new cruncher going, but it might keep and old one crunching. I've had 2 old drives fail in the last year and I have no more to get them going. Would be nice to keep a small backup for them. Knowing me, if I get a drive, I'll find something to run on it anyway (DASM Newegg refurbs! 😛)!!! 😉

P.S. If anyone would would want the "possibly dead" Duallie Tyan S2460 board, pay shipping and it's yours. Let me know.

That's funny I fell asleep after first PM too, bad part is that I didn't have SETIdriver running on my machine 🙁

Amazing to watch the progression of the 1600XP in my machine.

When I put in my first board/memory combo it put out tops 4 WU's a day, then I got the A7A266 and verclocked it and got up to 6 WU's day, now just changing the board again it now put's out 7 or 8 WU's day. Double the output with the same CPU, pretty wild.

I see the 2500XP 333 chips down to $80, hopefully with a little Tax refund I could get one of those and see what this NForce2 board will do, maybe 10 or more WU's a day?

This board and Memory chip will do 400 FSB, could that 2500 333 be pushed close to 400?

Engineer,
I think I have several small around 2G HDs I could send you. 🙂

I have to finish building a PC this weekend, so I can do some testing to make sure they work OK.

Well...I need power supplies...12 - 4 atx (don't need p4 ready)and 8 at's

some edo ram and some pc 66, and a week off from work to set it all up 😛

or I have 3 p2 boards with processors 2 with ram............8 pentium boards with processor - 3 with ram 1 atx 125 watt non p4 supply, and 1 AT 75 watt supply, that can be put in service 🙂 and lots of boards mostly AT for pentiums.

Crack rack anyone? 🙂

I'll tell you what...I've got a sample tube of Shin Etsu thermal compound that I'll donate for the price of shipping. This stuff might help some of you get a little more out of overclocking or simply get a few more systems up. Again, PM me if interested. Please "need" this or "have a good QUICK use" for this one...as it's good stuff! 🙂 (IMO)! 😀

Hey Engineer, what's the story on this possibly dead Tyan 760MP board? How possibly dead is it? I have a single CPU rig running a 1.2Ghz MP. If the MP could be put to use in this MP board, I'll buy a XP CPU to replace it and donate the CPU. Of course, someone else would have to have a spare 1.2MP and RAM for it.

Swanny, not sure what the problem is. The board, after cooking my ATX connector, seemed to run fine when I soldered 4 lines to the 5 volt pads on the ATX connector and connected them to the Molex connector. It locked up the next day and now beeps 4 times, which indicates RAM. The RAM was just RMA'ed and Crucial Ram has been known to die easily in these boards (I've had 3 sticks die). It may just be a bad power supply that killed my memory. I tired another supply and same results. Won't POST other than beeps. New ram and a good power supply might solve it.

It's free (other than shipping) for the taker.

Well if anyone here is in Oahu: contact me. Shipping out of hawaii is not cost effective. Of course if anyone is already planning to visit Oahu, then taking some of these back instead of pineapples might work.🙂

VGA monitor
Pentium 166 with motherboard, video, RAM, in a case with AT power supply and floppy but no harddrive.
HP Pentium 133 in a case with CD drive, RAM, video, sound card, power supply but no harddrive.
AST computer 486-33 with RAM, AT power supply, no floppy and no harddrive.
AMD Athlon slot A processor with heatsink, motherboard - pull out from an HP computer. motherboard has firewire.
Some old 66MHz pentium II motherboards

An updated list of what's available:
  • 1x floppy cable (homebrew "rounded" in that black flexible split tubing stuff)
  • "IBM" (actually Cyrix) PR233 2.5x75MHz-2.9V processor (socket 7 mount, no heatsink, unsure if working or not)
  • AMD K6-2 400MHz (does 450MHz stable, socket 7 mount, includes AMD retail heatsink)
I know the processors are very slow, but perhaps someone might find them useful to make a firewall (to protect their network of DC machines, of course 🙂) if they have an older Socket 7 board laying around (I don't).

Not really "needs," but could be helpful... an old CD-ROM drive (but to be picky, not a dinosaur - it can't be the kind that requires a soundcard) to make the OS installation a bit easier.

I have a Celeron 500MHz (doesn't have much cache, and is very slow) that could go in my Socket 370 board that is currently idle, but if you have something slightly faster, it would be a welcome addition (the board won't support tualatins, but I doubt if you've got one you'd want to get rid of it anyway 😉).

Items no longer available:
  • 2x 32MB PC/100 or PC/133 (not sure which) SDR SDRAM (sent to Slaughter)

I need a board with a socket 423...need it for an old p4 i have...1.4GHZ

have a couple small hard drives (2,3,4 GB)

If you get one of those make sure you look at overclocking it by cutting the wire on the JEN jumper and replacing it with the 3 pin jumper. It'll give you an option to OC to 181 ish ie take a Barton too.
