The Email I received from PDA Offer is below. Now, my questions is, if the CC company taking the orders can reverse orders until the product ships (see second note below), what is the danger of buying this? Apparently, if the product never ships, you can get your money back.

From PDA Offer:

"Thank you for placing an order for a Free Visor Edge PDA.
Unfortunately, your order was not properly processed by our credit card processor and you will need to place your order again from our website.
Your first order has been void and your charge card has been or will shortly be credited for the full amount .
Once you verify that it has been credited, please return to http://www.pdaoffer.com/ to place the order again.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
The management,
PDA Offer Inc."

CCNOW Letter:

CCNow has received a request to cancel order number 77-xxxx, which
was previously sent to you. Since the order has not yet been shipped,
we have cancelled the order as requested. The customer's credit card
was not charged.

Please do not ship order number 77-xxxx.

Regards,

i still think these threads shouldnt be locked since some of us do have money tied into it. can anandtech at least give the reason why they will lock this thread before they do? (the last 3 threads about this were locked and im not sure why...)

---

They were locked for the same reason I locked this one. This is obviously a scam.

The last thread said why it was locked.

It said NOT to post new threads about this, but to instead post in the Brag and Moan thread.

But this isn't a brag and moan though and shouldn't be considered as such. It's got the potential to be really hot (or the potential to be a scam obviously). But, as people post on it and help verify it, the deal (if there is one) can possibly be confirmed and subsequently found to be hot.

Sounds to me like this guy now has your CC#, and is trying to lull you into a false sense of security while he goes out and buys a whole bunch of stuff on you!
I'd watch my statement carefully if I were you.

The site was down last night and is still down today.
It says:

"Our server is temporarily
unavailable (too much traffic)
Please check back with us in a few hours.

Thanks for your support."

Either he is still raking in the bucks or maybe he has been shut down.

GooberedUp: you are probably looking at your cached page. The site is "temporary unavailable".

I used a temporary card number from MBNA shopsafe with $20.00 limit so I am not worried too much about the guy getting my card number.

Techbargains has their number posted. Feel free to call them :)

Hitting Refresh several times did NOT work. Goning to the "details.htm" did!

I wasn't about 5 minutes ago. Did another refresh after reading your message and it came back unavailable now. If this goes through, it's going to be SMOKING . . . but of course, I may be smoking something even thinking that this could work.

Perhaps you guys can consider one of the "Kids" cards, visa buxx, etc. which allows you to deposit a certain amount on the card. This way, I don't think merchants can charge more than what is on the card, a possible fraud prevention.

The thing is, I don't think CCnow, the charging company, is bad. So, if they are doing the order taking, I would imagine this guy couldn't charge more than what CCnow already did. And, the guy shouldn't have our CC numbers either. And, we should get protection from our CC companies if we need it.

ALERT - Okay, they just changed their order page. It is no longer through CCnow. It looks like their own. Now it's scarier.

This is what you get now as their order processing:

the guy's name is Abe. Well, I'm going to call Abe to see what's up. He's local to me.

Funny about his Fax number. It looks like a number from those free fax places.

And I thought that the people who responded to the initial posting were stupid!!:Q

CC-Now revoked this guy's merchant account and no money was ever sent to him. They said that the authorizations will expire within 30 days and no one will see any charges on their CC. You can contact CCNow about the merchant PDAOffer at 1-877-CCNOW-77 if you would like more info.

The ISP that was hosting the website has also suspended this website account. This is not enough ? After the crooks transferred their domain hosting offshore and are currently being blocked from US access, you still want to order ? You can't get to the homepage so you are trying access subpages on the site. How stupid can you be ???

>>>Funny about his Fax number. It looks like a number from those free fax places.<<<

SHOCKING :Q

>>>It's a mobile phone number that he's given. Sounds pretty suspicious<<<

If so, that's a good thing...mobile phones come with paperwork, and can easily be traced :)

Okay... Take a deep breath and repeat after me:

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
