I thought NASA actually announced the findings after the date Long John Silvers said.

On Monday, May 10, between the hours of 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., customers can stop by any participating Long John Silver's
restaurant and enjoy a free Giant Shrimp (one piece per customer).

I don't know if that is even worth the trip

Not to thread crap, but I'm sure their term 'giant shrimp' refers to a bunch of little shrimp mashed together to look like one big shrimp.

The giant shrimp in their commercials are about 6" long. I haven't seen it in real life though, cause for some reason there are no Long John Silvers in the Bay Area.

I am allergic to shrimp. :( I used to eat them all the time and then one day I ate some and got really, really, sick and can't eat them anymore, but I want one really, really, badly.

Man that must suck, are you sure it just wasn't those particular shrimp (seems kind of odd)? I've never heard of Long John Silvers, they must not be popular in New England. Are they a fast food resturant or a sit down place?

Fast food, and let me tell ya....the batter they use is enough to make ANYBODY sick. If you're going to eat shrimp from a fast food place, stick with Popeye's.

Long John's is pretty good, but their batter has the unique property of being able to retain 10x its weight in grease. The food tastes good, but half an hour later you feel like crap as your entire body bloats up.

My wife had some of the GIANT shrimp a few weeks ago. What a rip. They are nothing at all like the size shown in TV ads. In fact, one of he 3 she bought had the crust to the side of the shrimp and we had to actually look to find the shrimp. It was about the size of a very thin pinky finger. The other 2 were at least as small. The FTC should get them for falsely depicting what the food looks like. It aint worth a special trip even if free.

100% agreement here.... Every time I eat LJ's, I totally feel like crap afterwords. The food's good when it goes down but it ain't worth the grease effects.

I don't know if it's the batter or the oil they use because ALL their fried foods have the same effect, regardless of the batter. Anyone at LJ's have any more info on this?

Yeah, I don't think Long John Silvers could have much of a market in New England, what with all the non-fast-food seafood available there.

You people just need to lose some weight thats all, it aint the LJ's, its the unhealthy food that you eat and adding that extra grease from LJ's is just adding to the problem. Anyways, I believe that their 6" shrimp is just some medium sized shrimp snapped at its "joints" to make it seem longer and then they just coat the sucker.

The shrimp that they use for their "Giant Shrimp" are indeed that, they're giant shrimp. These species can get from 5-12" long. However, they only give about 4-6" of edible meat, and that is only 1/2" - 3/4" thick. SO- They're long skinny shrimp. You'll be very disappointed.

Now, if you can get your hands on a giant LOBSTER, that's a different story :) I had one a few years back- sucker was 4.5 lbs! I could bearly eat it all heheh.

Yeah for some reason that doesn't sound like an allergy...an allergy should build up pretty quickly...so that by the 2nd time you eat shrimp you would have had an allergic reaction, since your body generally will create the neccessary antibodies pretty quickly.

But don't worry, even if you really do have an allergic reaction, as long as it's not too severe maybe you can try to slowly work your way back by having a little bit at a time. My dad used to be allergic to shrimp and other shellfish but he slowly built his tolerance up and now he can eat shrimp plenty fine. I think it's something like having allergy shots but a lot slower =p

Or really, I suppose if you really love shrimp you can torture yourself with an allergy shot lol.

lol you my friend, need to go buy a real giant lobster...they shouldn't be 4.5 lbs...4.5lbs is more like a "somewhat good sized lobster" =P

20 pound lobsters aren't uncommon even...although apparently a lot of lobstermen won't catch the biggest lobsters because they want to leave them behind for future generations, which is a good thing.

But you can probably still get 14 pounders pretty easily. Now THOSE are giant. Apparently it's possible for them to reach into the 45 pound range, although I haven't personally seen one that big. I have seen the 20 pounders though...massive massive lobsters.

mmm lobster

OK genius when did you become an expert on nutrition and health? For the record, I am slim and workout 6-8x a month. And have you ever a seen an uncooked shrimp in your life? You can't snap its "joint"... you can butterfly them at best AND LJ's does use real skinny but large shrimp.
