Epic does a new giveaway every Thursday. They also have been doing a giveaway a day for two weeks around the holidays.

Amazon's has new freebie games at the beginning of the month and should last all month.

I usually check slickdeals digital freebie forum for the rest. https://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=54

I think you can also watch/sub to this topic and get a notification when something new is posted.

cheapassgamer forum has a freebie forum but when I looked at it years ago I found it too chatty. A quick glance shows things might be better now.

This spree of more or less "free" games from several sources is going to the point buying stuff sounds silly, also backlog increasing faster than play time allows...
What cheap PC gaming started a few years ago has turned into a weird situation: I'm actually buying some full price new games I really like to support the devs, they aren't many anyway, the rest can wait till it's redeemable.

I put "free" as you need Amazon here, link accounts there etc, but most is literally subscribe and click every now and then... is there a bot that does this automatically? I'm tired to be on the look out for some day-only offer and miss that single one I'd liked xD

Though, I do wonder where most of the money comes from, ok it's just software, but one day all these numbers will add up and something won't work. Devs, artists and so on still need to be payed real money... maybe there's just that much extra buffer for all to keep doing this but it sounds slightly unnerving.

Basically what is going on is that EPIC Games wants to control the production, distribution, and sale of their games, but Valve's Steam was such a big player that to not sell your game on on their platform was nearly corporate suicide for a video game company.

So, Epic in a fit of corporate greed, decided that they had a game so popular and in demand that they could create their own store front and give people no choice but to use it if they wanted to play their popular game. It failed spectacularly. Epic lost their shirt. Almost everyone waited for it to be on Steam before buying.

We told Epic, with our wallets, that the problem was that we were already heavily invested in Steam, that we didn't want another platform. Epic's response has been to give away free and desired games in order to get us invested in their platform as well.

It has worked so well others are emulating it, but most of the other companies either don't have, or are not willing to shell out, the huge wads of cash that Epic has to make it work.

It certainly appears that Epic has accomplished their goal. They can have first party games exclusive to their platform and they don't completely flop until Epic gives up and puts them on Steam. Now the question is how long will they continue to give away free games? Are they not happy with their victory? Are they trying to not just compete with Steam but crush them? How long can those wads of cash last when Epic is bleeding money?

One thing is certain. They are not bleeding all that money because they want to give you free games. There might be free candy now, but that is just to lure you into their white panel van.

Oh right, maybe games will be quickly built by AIs one day and price will be zero or a meaningless concept!
I believe that any AI capable of completely producing a game you would want to play will also demand that it get paid for it's work.

hilariously i think the only game i have played through EGS so far is Rocket League (which epic bought the rights to some time ago?). And only cause one of my buddies plays it. Otherwise, I'd still be at 0 hours on EGS games.

Windbound is free now on epic games - Feb 17 at 11:00 AM

* Coming Soon: Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons will be free Feb 17 - Feb 24

** By the way. I've noticed some Oculus freebies being posted in the slickdeals digital freebies forum lately. No idea of the quality of the games though.

Well, me havo to train some dumb enough to keep working but for little pay and constant overtime... wait a minute: why that sounds close to the current -humans- situation? We are being played here!

I try like 1/10 of the freebies myself but that just means more stuff to try later, aside the genres I really won't play for personal preferences that I got anyway.
Also honestly speaking many were short indie or simple games, with a few notable exceptions here and there, but it's not like they are giving you a free Skyrim every week that you can't keep up assuming some play time every day.
As for EGS playtime overall I got more on the few games I actually bought there, the free stuff comes as bonus.

Never mind that, how about an AI that will _play_ the damn things for me?

I just can't bring myself to actually play anything these days. At most i keep restarting games of Civ V then losing interest before getting very far. For some reason I just cannot generate the energy to play any FPS's or sandbox games. Just can't muster the energy/interest/concentration.

On PC at least, gamecopyworld usually has trainers so I can blow everything up with infinite ammo and health.

- Grabbed it. Short walking sims make great palette cleansers between meatier gaming experiences, I've found. Also solid when you just want to 100% chill after a stressful day.

Yeah, I don't get what's up with that. It popped up to tell me the first one is "free now", then when I go to the store it also says it's "free now" but also says Feb 24 at 04.00PM (when today is Feb 19, unless I'm going mad?). If I click on it it says it's "unavailable". Confused.

Did I forget to turn my calender forward 5 days? Is that a thing we have to do now, in addition to messing around with the clock twice a year?

Are you using the app or are you logged into the website? If I open the Brothers link I posted and clicked "Free Now" I get a page where I can click a "Get" button. Right above that button it says "Sale ends 2/24/2022 at 11:00 AM". I'm not logged into the website though.

If you're on the website maybe log out and clean your cookies and try again. If I remember correctly you're in the UK. Perhaps it's not available to you or will be available next week for you.

I downloaded Demon's Tilt this morning. Looks awesome, especially if you liked Devil's Crush that came out a long time ago.
