Wow, thanks. I'm getting 3MB/s on my school's internet. 283MB in 1 min 40 s 🙂

Edit: Results are in.

A64 3200+ Newcastle @ 2.5GHz (11x238; 1GB @ 3-4-4-8)
Gainward 6800GT GS @ 400/1100

4284 3DMarks

Thanks Devious. Scoring 440KB/sec because other people are using the rest of the 300KB in the house. Project time is like 10 minutes, sure beats anything Futuremark linked to!

On how this is a hot deal, I don't know. I just want to look at the purdy pictures 🙂

HOLY $HIT!!! I GOT 2800+ KB/sec SUSTAINED FROM THE ATLANTA MIRROR!!! JESUS CHRIST!!!!

it took me like 2 minutes to download the entire thing, if that long

Thanks for the links, I'd given up on getting it today after all the FM links were either dead or slow as molasses!

looks good, but i only get about 7 fps, downloading the latest omega drivers

edit: the only omega drivers that will work on mine are the 2.5.44 version cuz overlay doesn't work on the later versions. they said it's an ATI bug, not an omega bug. maybe i'll try it just to see the performance improvement, and revert to 2.5.44 so i can play movies

The X800XT is not 15% faster than the 6800U in almost any real world game. Again, these idiots miss the point, a good gaming benchmark needs to predict overall system performance, not just the differences in a sinlge compinent of the system. For example, the X800XT overall score is 2.5 times higher than the 9800 pro's overall score, but in aquamark the difference would only be 1.5 times higher at most (I know this based on my two systems A64 3200+/6800U and AXP 3200+/9700pro), and that is closer to the real difference in fps rates you get in most games. Maybe that's what they intended, so you could take it for what it is, but it's not a good linear gaming performance predictor.

It's kind of like if we compare the memory badwidth of a P4 2.4C to A64 3400+, the pentoium will still have about double the bandwidth because of it's dual channel support and 800MHz FSB, but we all know the 3400+ will dominate in any real world gaming test by a wide margin. Bottom line, performance in real world games depends on many other factors, and that overall performance which is quantified by the fps rate, is what people care about.

Personally I don't even count 3Dmark as a valid benchmark anymore. I prefer benching of actual games. Nonetheless, when I get home tonight I'll install it and run it just to see the visuals and nothing more.

Having said that, 3dmark01se is quite reasonable (and linear) indicator of the relative gaming performance of different systems.
