Well, long story short I forgot my password and had to reformat. Somehow during the reinstall I deleted my second HD partition and, with it, my old file recovery utility (which I paid $45 for :( )

Now I need a free one just in case I can't get ahold of my old one.

I wanna make sure I did it right...
I opened it and click on 'Recover Lost Drives'... then selected it and clicked 'Find logical drives...' and made sure it was doing the whole drive.

An hour left... should this work?

It should work, try all the optins, it may take a little playing with, but it should get back what you need 1 way or the other.

Everytime it gets within the last few thousand sectors of the disk it comes up with an error that you have to either abort or ignore.

When you try to open the disk in the logical section it comes up with this error message:

Access violation at address 00479983 in module 'rescue.exe'. Read of address 00000004. [OK]
... and I can't get any further. I have scanned the physical disk completely (45gb @ 2hrs) probably 6 times... and the last 1gb or so 6 more times. No luck.

Thanks for your help, Mboy. I resorted to Partition Magic Pro 7 and it fixed it in like 5 minutes. Unfortunately not everything if free :Q
