Free federal tax filing options

Each year, the IRS provides a list of free federal tax-filing services. See this link to the IRS Free File site for more details:

Note that many of these options have income limitations. Most require an adjusted gross income less than $56,000 for 2008. Also, these options may not include state tax filing (though I know several states provide their own free e-filing services for everyone).

also has been underutilized up until recently,... you will find some of them reject the return after part way through if you have ira distributions, rollovers, capital gains,... or at least I ran into that a few years back,...

many will charge on the state side, but you either can print out the forms and mail, or depending on state, free e-file from states department of revenue site,......

I say government program because if I remember right congress passed this back in 2001 or so where they end up paying the fee to the company for us to use this free for lower - mid income families to help reduce IRS costs,...
