Free DVD player software

Don't you have to have some sort of decoder for WMP classic to play DVD's?

I know VLC works on a clean install of XP - it also plays .MOV files without having to install crappy quicktime.

DScaler5 (w/ ffdshow to upconvert). It's involved to set up, but ultimately better PQ than VLC. I use ZoomPlayer (not free but cheap) but have VLC for whatever doesn't play through ZP.

VLC is free but IQ is terrible relative speaking. Spring for a nice decoder if you are going to be watching a lot of movies.

I got ffdshow and the free version of ZP, but im having some troubles. Do you know of any sites that describes what all the differences do?

Does DScaler work with ffdshow?

I tried VLC and didn't like it. The image quality was pretty sub-par on fullscreen, and it didn't keep the disc running and caching so the movie would skip every 10 mins or so. Never had that problem with WMP11 or MPC so I go with those. WMP10 wasn't great either but 11 is much better and is what I use most of the time now.

I had VLC and I didn't like the program. The bookmark tick that moves along as the movie plays was not accurate. If I wanted to rewind to a previous spot, the tick mark was not accurate.

I have Windows Media Player 10. Does this player run DVDs?

How do I get WMC?
