I think you should give Frontpage a try, I'd be willing to bet you like it Falconforster.

I just tried that Dreamweaver, and didn't like it at all. It says it has pixel by pixel movement, but it definitely does not, or I couldn't find it in the 100 windows it opens up when you start the thing. You have windows all over your desktop open, all with the tiny print.

I have tried many html editors, and so far Frontpage 2000 is by far the best and easiest to use.

The only people who don't like it are the Microsoft bashers who hate anything Microsoft does no matter how good it is. I myself like most Microsoft products.

I've used dreamweaver and frontpage. I must say frontpage is definetely easier to use but dreamweaver is more powerful.

I am playing with a new HTML editor from Adobe called GoLive! now.
It is neat, very powerful drag and drop feature and good integration with adobe's other products.

It's not the easiest thing to use, but once you've got a hang of it, you should be fine.

dreamweaver- never tried it

cold fusion - pretty cool...used it once and then stopped web programming

frontpage - tried to use it...it sux. (kept changing my code)

notepad - using it as we speak...(err, i speak)

For all your notepad users... Give Allaire Homesite a try! Some of the search and replace routines make it worth it just by itself. It is even included in the latest Dreamweaver bundle (the Dev one) so that must tell you something...

Homesite is also nice because of the color coding. This feature alone has saved me hours of time. It also helps with indenting your code, making it easier to read. Don't know if Frontpage or Dreamweaver do this.

Homesite's pretty cheap too, I think $100, which is about the cost of Frontpage, and less than Dreamweaver I believe.

Nope... Golive is final ... been out for a while.. I am using the 4.0 version and the 5.0 version is the latest.

Haven't heard many people using the product but it is good and flexible ...

Frontpage does have pixel-by-pixel movement I believe as I helped a friend with a menu page and the icons were not lined up.

But i use Visual J for my HTML, simply for the jscript ide.. of course learning to write HTML instead of WYSIWYG is much more useful in the long term.

Definitely HomeSite. I've been using it since version 1.2, which came with an HTML book I had to buy for a college class. I was using Notepad before it. I definitely recommend it over notepad.

Front page destroys HTML code and I never was able to get used to Dreamweaver.

I use Dreamweaver, tried Frontpage98, hated how it won't let me do what I want it to do, the codes it spat out are pretty ugly too, can't find anything in there. Maybe Frontpage2000 works better now, but I recommend Dreamweaver.

i would also have to go with dreamweaver. easy to understand, easy to use, and that layer feature does rock. . . though they still have a code bloat problem which kind of stinks, but that's my only critIZ.

Yeah, alexlin, I like the overall interface of dreamweaver but not the feel of it really if you know what i mean
