I've had DIRECTV for over 8 years. I've never gotten anything free from them. I bought my first system for $350 and installed it myself. Everytime I've moved, I installed it myself. I wanted to get a Tivo box and they wanted to charge me $100 for it. I just pushed the guy on the phone harder and he finally gave me the Tivo and installation free. It's just plain cold out and I didn't want to go up on my 3 story roof to put in the new cable! YMMV!

They certainly have good deals right now.

Be warned if you are going with either satellite company, they charge you 4.99 per month if you don't have a land line that you can hook up to your reciever. As I only have a cell (Unlimited Metro PCS w/ Long distance is only $40 per month in Atlanta) I get fleeed of 60 a year by Dish Network.

i've been using DTV for 2 years without any of my receivers being hooked up to a phone line. none of these boxes are DVR's though, which at minimum need to be hooked up to a phone line ocassionally to receive Tivo software updates(from what i'm told). i haven't seen it in DTV's current contract(i haven't looked), but in DISH's contract they stipulate u MUST have it hooked up or there is a $5 per receiver charge.

i ended up staying with DTV. i called customer retention tonight and told them what DISH is offering. the first call resulted in the CSR offering me a free DVR. i said thanks, but i'd have to think about it. i called back 5 minutes later, told the CSR what DISH is offering. this time a different CSR offered me 2 DVR's and they'd replace one of my current boxes(which locks up on ocassion) with a new model since i was adding a room. i'm happy, and DTV retains a customer for another year.

FYI ,just MHO = just My Humble Opinion mr Horsep0wer just in case you missed that 😉

nope i didn't miss it. too bad your opinion appears to be uninformed. compare their package line-ups side by side and educate yourself.

Being an ex dtv employee, i will tell you right now all you have to do is complain or bitch and you can get anything you want pretty much. The average rep there has a $250 credit limit per customer. If threaten to disconnect they will send you to the retention dept. They have a $500 credit limit. Trust me, call and bitch about something.. and demand free equipment. I promise you'll get it. You can thank me later 🙂

Ive had both, back in the earlier days of Hidef, in order to get as many hd channels as i could, i had a total of 3 dishes up.
I dropped dish once dtv got discovery in hidef. I feel directv has an edge in programming since, they now offer hidef local channels as well as Sunday ticket in hd.

Nothing beats the hidef tivo, and dtv is the only way to get it. dual hidef tuners with premium content with the best dvr interface, tivo. asfaik there isnt any other hd dvr that can do this right now.

As for rain fade, yer storm resitance will depend on how good a job yer installer does on the initial install. If for example, he leaves with the signal at aroun 80, when it rains badly you will notice signal breakup. If he does a really good job and leaves with the sig on 93 or so, you will have much more head room when there are storms.

well, thats your opinion. 🙂

and by the way, YHO is in the minority. theres a reason why Dish doesnt even come close to DirectTVs sales coverage.
yes, dish is a little cheaper. but I would rather pay a little more for what i want.

if i wanted to save money like that, i would buy RC cole , instead of Coke. hahahaha

and yes, thats MHO

but hell, you might like RC Cola 😀

by the way, hope you didnt get all bent outta shape because im posting my opinion.
if you did, have a coke and a smile 😉 😀

Having had both, the only way I would say DirectTV is superior to DISH is if you want the NFL ticket. If you do, no decision. If you don't, I think DISH is superior in every way. You get Sirius Satellite radio, better menu and interface, etc.

I wanted to get VOOM but the went out of business before I could try it out. Both DISH and Direct want to much money for HD tuners for existing customers. Voom was going to be free $1 installation for up to three HD receivers. Oh well
