besides being able to unlock the fone and updating firmware, what other purpose does a data cable have?

Some phones(not the ones listed on the site) you can download your own ringtones, games, and pictures. thru a datacable for free. I paid 20 bucks for a cable for my phone, but for unlimited ringtones/games/pics download then you got a steal.
 
I use mine to transfer MP3s to my phone and unload the pictures that I take. I could use a mmc reader but that's a pain to remove.
