Free Computer w/DSL

I read about this in the newspaper. They said that you would be spending around $480 for the comptuer over the life of the contract. This is based on that you will be spending around $20 more per month for DSL

Assuming basic DSL is $40/mo with no installation and a free DSL modem (it is in L.A.), and subtracting out the basic cost of a phone line, you end up paying about $500 for the Compaq. If you further assume that DSL will come down in price over the next two years, the effective price of the computer goes up.

Sorry, but I don't think this is much of a deal on an computer I wouldn't buy in the first place. Just MHO.

Fairly good deal here in the Midwest.. $480.00 - 200 in equipment(DSL modem) you have to buy (at least in OK)=$280 for compaq with 566 celeron overclock that puppy and becomes a good deal.

i wonder how many compaqs are good overclocks though. bet the board doesn't allow fsb changes. no way you can get another borad in there, proprietary case and all. guess you could gut it for cpu, ram, hdd, and cdrom... still a little steep.
