I'm looking for a good, reliable one with lots of binaries... My server seems to drop a lot of files so the search is on..
thanks!

"free" and "binaries" are mutually exclusive for the most part when you're talking about news servers. You'll have to pay or use your ISPs servers.

OK, then how about cheap yet decent/good?

dunno off the top of my head, but a quick search of off-topic for "news", "newsgroups" and such should answer your question.

usenetserver.com is supposed to be real good...but they charge $15/month...dunno if you consider that cheap. Thats cheaper than most good news servers though.

I used usenetserver.com for a while ... IMO, they are pretty good .. $15 a month is pretty steep, but they carry loads of groups, the download speeds are good, and they don't have monthly limmits (at least they didn't when I had them, but that was a while ago)

I'm using usenetserver right now. It's $15/month (or $37/3 months) which I suppose is kind of expensive. However, you get six connections, a nice download speed of 2mbps, and they carry about 30k groups with great post retention. Overall, I'm very satisfied with it.
